What does a biologist do during his sabbatical months between thesis and post-doc?
He learns to develop games involving color patterning and launches a Kickstarter (ending tomorrow !).
We're pretty far from the goal, but Twitter's magic can work. RT much much appreciated!
Twitter, we need your magic! 🌟 H-24 before our Kickstarter ends. Help us to finish Camouflage, our indie game where you craft pigments and bodypaint to listen to secrets and access hidden places! RT much much appreciated!

[dev notebook #1] Creature customization.
Queens and kings of camouflage, polatouches also love to cover their faces with all sorts of pigments!

@Alexleserveur Si, surtout les jeunes, mais en vieillissant ça se craquèle et ça laisse transparaître les couches marrons du dessous. Mais sur la photo, on voit encore un peu de blanc à la base !
@turingpattern If only... We are in an election period, the current government seems to have cynically thought that lifting the mask requirement could improve its image. But some French people still wear it!
@turingpattern And here is the paper. Still mindblowing after all this years, and in my opinion important to keep in mind to solve mammalian periodic color patterns (which is on the way to be achieved in felines?)

I spend my January mapping the abundance of Turing patterns, which brings me to meet some very nice living beings. May I present you the Ribbon Seal? It reminds me of @turingpattern's shifting color pattern mutant mices, (although I think the pattern is stable in this species)!

A warm thank to my co-authors Sylvain Gerber (who taught me geometric morphometrics), Martine le Guilloux and my supervisors Florian Jabbour and Catherine Damerval! https://t.co/BZUvgKEef2
How do repeated colour motifs form? Turing R/D systems are the most known and studied mechanisms, but did you know that 6 other ways have been described in nature? You will find the exhaustive list in this review, and ways to discover others:

- Shape and size of N. damascena petal are linked by an exponential allometric relation, not causal.
- While partly simultaneous, cellular expansion and cell division have different roles: respectively petal growth and petal shape acquisition.

This black species of hammerhead flatworm is present in France and Italy and probably in other countries.
Please report it if you found it in your garden.

Finally, I can't miss the opportunity to thanks 1) my two supervisors Catherine Damerval and Florian Jabbour for there unwavering support, 2) @M_Gostel for putting the first version back on the right track and 3) @ISYEB_UMR for financial support (and so the open access version)!
