Mario Kart World is:
🏁A superb Mario Kart game.
✅An absolute system seller.
🏆One of the best games in the series.
Mario Kart World is not:
❎The absolute best game of all time.
✨Some kind of legendarily mythic treasure.
And that's fine, it doesn't need to be.
Fascinating to watch GTA 6 solo the entire gaming industry. No big releases scheduled for November.
GTA 5 launch month (Sep '13) had several major titles including FIFA 14, Arma 3.
I think this reflects both the power Rockstar wields and the fragile state of the modern medium.
The fact that other studios refuse to even compete with GTA 6 seems to betray an astonishing lack of confidence in their own products.
Do they truly concede that the gaming industry is, in fact, cooked?
From the jungles of Peru to the ancient ruins of Greece and beyond, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis is coming to Nintendo Switch 2! Stay tuned for more details.
I think Steam and Nintendo are part of the essential glue that holds the fragile gaming industry together.
Without them, I truly believe it would have fallen apart at the seams some time ago.
Valve's Gabe Newell believes Steam doesn't have a monopoly, saying that gamers have “enormous choice” about where they buy games
“Whether they buy the game on an Xbox, or Steam, or Epic Games Store, or whether they buy it directly from software developers”
$90 buys you 12,500 Vbucks in Fortnite.
You'd quite possibly use the items that you get for around 2-3 hours total and then leave them to gather dust in your locker.
I think there's a massive disparity in our pricing perception between microtransactions and new game releases.
Switch 2 is officially Nintendo's first smash hit successor console in nearly 40 years.
Switch 2 sold 19.86 million units as of March 31 2026.
That means it's impressively outperforming its predecessor, the original Switch, which moved around 16 million units in its first year.
I have to say, the Minecraft Super Mario Mash-up Pack on Wii U and Switch was truly excellent.
An updated version of that on Switch 2 would be very welcome. And sell like hotcakes no doubt!
Summer is still E3 in all but name, isn't it?
- I hope Nintendo reveals a new 3DS successor handheld.
- From PlayStation, a truly great original IP like Tomb Raider / Uncharted. Or WipEout!
- Xbox: obviously a brilliant new Halo game.
- Summer Game Fest: Squadron 42!
This is a BIG week for new game announcements!
• PlayStation State of Play - June 2
• Summer Game Fest - June 5
• Xbox Games Showcase - June 7
• Summer Nintendo Direct - ???
There will always be more Switch 2 games for the foreseeable future, but personally I'd like to see an announcement of a DS / 3DS successor.
Nintendo DS2?
So whisper in the winds is that the supposed June Nintendo Direct may be happening Thursday June 4th, RIGHT WITHIN the WILDBOY Week of Summer Gaming Shows!
What do y'all think?
I don't think we can blame Valve for these market conditions. They were brave to make the first move with this price hike.
I think other companies could well follow suit with similar increases.
I hope to see a reduction if (and hopefully when) the storage price crisis subsides.
I don’t think anyone expected the Steam Deck price increase because Valve now appear greedy when the community think of Valve as gamers first. They are (or were) the cool kids and now price expectations for Steam Machine and Steam Frame are up in the air. Gotta say Nintendo Switch 2 at $499 with the $50 increase looks like a miracle in comparison to Steam Deck. I use my Switch 2 a lot more too.
Driven by the constant pursuit of ever-better graphics and gameplay, a large sector of video gaming is increasingly becoming an absurdly overpriced luxury.
Meanwhile, many studios buckle under the strain (and cost) of meeting enormous and constantly rising customer expectations.
Valve has ripped the band-aid off Steam Deck pricing, says Rob Fahey, and the prospect of gaming hardware becoming a hyper-expensive niche interest feels more credible than ever. https://t.co/5eUtAwQzxB
Necessity is the mother of invention.
The innovative Nintendo DS was a boon to the business after the GameCube placed 3rd against Xbox and the mighty PS2.
Simple graphics by today's standards, but titles such as New Super Mario Bros form a crucial part of Nintendo's legacy.
Developer loyalty to specific consoles has all but evaporated. I think there's a certain sense of denial about this in the industry.
It seems PlayStation and Xbox can no longer count on exclusives to attract new players and have begun to rely on their established customer bases.
The problem is that console exclusivity is essentially a thing of the past.
Steam has been wildly successful in attracting developers to the PC platform.
The old days of excellent system-selling exclusives ("killer apps") are gone.
The one exception, of course, is Nintendo.
Xbox will continue showing PlayStation and Nintendo logos during the upcoming XBOX Showcase 🎮
They want to be transparent about which platforms their games are releasing on
