@Jonathan_Blow It actively makes code worse. People shut their brain off while using it. If all it did was take my intent and perfectly replicate it sort of like a super auto-complete/snippet tool, I’d get it. But it almost always gets it wrong.
Going to start a new trend now that @amazon is insisting on OTP for deliveries. I'm just going to wait at my door and pretend the OTP code is loading, but never give it, and just do that day after day. I'll give the delivery guy cookies and coffee for his troubles.
@TheCartelDel I went through a 3.5 year cycle and the result was The Callisto Protocol, a gorgeous game I am so proud of but is undoubtedly super limited in terms of design. The reaction to a flawed but promising product in the 2020s is ridicule, but in 2007 it would start Assassin’s Creed.
@TheCartelDel It’s sort of like how junior programmers start out thinking they have to know everything and do everything perfect, but once you get to lead you realize you’ll never know anything and actually the bad dumb hacky idea is probably better in most situations.
@ChrisHarrisWSMV Basically just the pessimists that live in Atlanta and are beaten down by disappointment. Us Vandy fans certainly had zero expectations lol
@gekido Probably, Hollywood and AAA are the biggest users, I wouldn’t be shocked if that was driving up the prices.
Also, there’s the Epic philosophy that you don’t really NEED most of these like you do on Unity. Unreal is already feature complete for most genres.
@reduzio I feel like this is encouraging hardcoding, which can actually hamper iteration times in the long run by creating needless dependencies. Does GDScript have a design plan for mitigating that type of practice?
@MateSrsen@MindofMachine1@gamemakerstk UE is the best rapid prototyping engine in the industry... if you have a team of 10 or more. It's definitely focused on AAA, and requires a team to match, but Fortnite has been pumping out huge updates every 2 weeks since practically launch.
Real talk though, this is going to suck for @unity games in development, but this is good for the industry. Why is the "community driven" engine the only one that's not open source? It's wild to me that Unity has survived this long purely by being an incumbent.
@FreyaHolmer There’s studies on industrial design for devices and how architecture impacts emotion that translate though. It’s where we get terms like “affordances” from.
@VandyVsTheWorld @dore_report @VandyFootball The true Vandy fan sees 0-8 and flies out each week anyway. There's nothing quite like being in the away stands at Kentucky and hurling better insults than they possibly could at our own players. And we even WON that one!
@TheCartelDel It's like language: The skill of hearing another language uses a different part of the brain than the skill of speaking another language. They of course help, but just because I can understand my Peruvian grandmother doesn't mean I can form a complete sentence on my own.
@TheCartelDel I can't speak for most ADs, but of the Technical Directors and Design Directors I know, most are incredible Programmers and Designers! And the sad part is, when you put them in a leadership role and have them in meetings all day, you lose those IC skills as a resource.
