@gamemasterJs the backstaber: he hired the party but doesn't want to pay up, usually he combats for a few rounds then bounces. Thugs a must.

@gamemasterJs hard work can go into a interesting npc without a lot of payout. As a Dm I tend to use one of about 5 npc subtypes

It's a hard balance to get npc who isn't a push over, isn't a sledge hammer, isn't a leash, and isn't just... background debris. Lots of

@gamemasterJs alternatively, when you go to do your next session, instead of allowing pc to make characters, you make them, they play them

@gamemasterJs so the first thing you can do is separate them. Min/max players tend to have a very 1 sided character. Combat heavy? Puzzle.
