Before Game Theory Academy 51.7% understood their money habits, and how to change the ones that don't work for them. After GTA 100% of our students felt confident in their money habits.
We want our students to have all the information they need to make well-informed decisions. This means asking questions. Over 89% of our students reported on evaluations that they felt comfortable asking GTA instructors for more explanation when they didn't understand something.
We teach skills student can use immediately, to make decisions about money and their goals. Traditional financial literacy might teach how to save for retirement. This is a great skill, but not useful to a 17 year old today. We teach skills for now, that build long-term habits.
Earlier this week, the San Francisco Chronicle published a piece about the problem of financial literacy in California. GTA wants to help solve this problem by making personal financial education more accessible to youth.

GTA is not only a program to learn strategic thinking, but a place to meet people from other places. This spring students from the United States, Ghana and Nicaragua, participated in our classes.
Our instructors lead an activity where students choose between a $10 Starbucks and $15 Amazon gift card. In one of our spring groups, many students chose the Starbucks gift card. Why? They said they cared more about their preference for a Starbucks treat than a dollar amount.
