Scientist and Professor @IIITDelhi Pioneering Computational Gastronomy, a blend of food, data science & artificial intelligence. Making food computable
The National (UAE) highlights computational gastronomy research from our lab.
"The Indian academic making the world look at flavours and food in a fresh way," Tania Bhattacharya, The National (UAE).

The future of healthcare will not be driven by medicines alone. It will increasingly be shaped by what we eat, how we eat, and how intelligently we can translate food into health.
Looking forward to meaningful conversations and new collaborations.
Food is perhaps humanity's oldest technology.
Today, with advances in AI, data science, molecular biology, and nutrition science, we have a unique opportunity to reimagine how we understand food, health, and well-being.

Looking forward to participating in the panel discussion: “Who’s Cooking? Taste, Memory and the Algorithms Between Us” at the Assembly 2026 of Imaginative Intelligences, organized by G5A Foundation in partnership with the Mozilla Foundation and the Berggruen Institute
As AI increasingly learns to generate language, images, and music, food raises deeper questions:
Can machines understand taste?
Can culture become computable?
What remains uniquely human in the age of algorithms?
Addressed a gathering of 150+ young Changemakers and their parents at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi as part of Metamorphosis program. Nothing more rewarding than sharing ones journey with younger generation and feeling the pulse of their generation.
I will be in Mumbai three times in less than two weeks.
Starting with the ImagiNXT SciTechFest (https://t.co/WVhSj8D5Az), then for the Assembly 2026 of Imaginative Intelligences with G5A: The Origin of Thought, and finally for the Nutrify C-Suite Summit.

A new study by Prof. @gansbags and his research team at #IIITD reveals that recipes follow #mathematicallaws, much like human language. They used #AI to analyse over 118,000 recipes from 26 cuisines. They found four statistical laws shaping cooking globally.

Our study, which made an analogy between language and cooking, is in the news. By investigating over 118,000 recipes, we find that cuisines across the world follow universal statistical laws.

It is an honor to be discussing topics on the frontiers of AI and Biology at the CSIR-IMTech, #Chandigarh, as a Chief Guest on the occasion of National Technology Day on 11th May 2026.
I will deliberate on how AI has been making inroads into biology, from genomes to foodome.
Universal statistical laws governing culinary design', https://t.co/tSkJWsm3ma
Such is the beauty of universal phenomena that they stretch anywhere from Chaos to Culinary Design!!
Today I got an email from the authors of a paper ('The Universal Statistical Structure and Scaling Laws of Chaos and Turbulence', https://t.co/tSkJWsm3ma) that conceptually resonated with our recent preprint: '
