okay actually I'm gonna make a little thread on it because I'm seeing a lot of people assume that mizi is less sentient or conscious than sua or ivan, but I think this is missing the core themes of mizi's character both here and in alien stage !! 🧵
Sua giving her flowers and Mizi handing them off as if she were some fan. Oh my goodness, this fucking business RUINED her.
Sua loved her so deeply from the beginning, I’M SICK.
"its hot when women do stuff together but i dont want to think they wouldnt be attracted to me because of their sexuality. im the most important person in their relationship"
i love that we dont quite see their lips touch in the last kiss. the idea that its titilation, that their largely male audience want to partake in the fantasy of women being together but not loving each other, sharing affection, wanting each other to the "exclusion" of men
Um so the loser getting part of their body cut off to be auctioned off after every round is so sick and I’m so fucking scared now because that means any body part can be auctioned off that they choose +
@_veroons_ I mean I do also think she reluctantly agreed to become idols with Mizi together because she was asked of it and what Mizi wants is what she wants.
Even more heartbreaking when Mizi didn't reciprocate Sua's advances on stage so Sua tried to goad it out of her by kissing her. It's as if she didn't want to publicly out herself as a lesbian and as "taken" to pander to her now male audience.
// Zombie Stage spoilers
Seeing Mizi's spark actively dimming the more time she spent in the entertainment industry is genuinely such a gut-wrenching watch. They turned her into someone so far-removed from her usual self that not even Sua could recognize her anymore :(
i want more ppl to watch utena but i also need them to understand beforehand that them being sapphic SERVES the narrative, not the other way around. It's a surrealist show about navigating your youth under patriarchy, with everything it entails. It's gruesome and complex.
When people jump into Utena blind expecting "cute uwu sword lesbians" and they get jumpscared with 3 different harrowing depictions of incestuous abuse
