🚨 Clarence Seedorf on Real Madrid vs Inter Milan:
🗣️ Seedorf: “Thierry, that was proper Champions League football. I enjoyed everything about that game.
People will look at Madrid having 36% possession and because Mourinho is the coach they’ll imagine they sat in their box for 90 minutes and made the game boring. If you watched it, you know that’s not what happened.
Inter were excellent. Tactically, they’re one of the best teams I’ve watched this season. The way they kept the ball, moved Madrid around and found spaces, you could see exactly what they were trying to do. They didn’t come to the Bernabeu frightened of Real Madrid.
But Madrid were also excellent because they understood what kind of game Inter wanted and refused to play it on Inter’s terms.
Every time Madrid recovered the ball, you felt something could happen. Vinicius running, Mbappe running, players arriving from midfield. Inter would attack Madrid for two minutes and suddenly Madrid needed about ten seconds to be at the other end.
That’s what made the game beautiful. One team was trying to suffocate you with the ball. The other was waiting for the moment you gave them somewhere to run.
And both defences deserve enormous credit. Inter created pressure that would make most teams lose their organisation. Madrid didn’t. Then Madrid attacked with frightening speed and somehow Inter kept recovering and making tackles.
It wasn’t one team attacking and another surviving. Both teams were asking completely different questions of each other all night.
Honestly, since PSG-Bayern last season, I can’t remember enjoying a Champions League game this much.
Sometimes people think entertainment means both teams forgetting how to defend and finishing 5-4. No.
Give me two very good teams attacking properly, defending properly, and trying to beat each other in completely different ways. That’s cinema.”
Zlatan Ibrahimović on Mexico eliminating Ecuador to reach the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 with four wins from four:
🗣️ “Four wins from four? Stop calling this a surprise. Mexico aren't surviving this World Cup they're conquering it. They didn't come here to make up the numbers, they came here to shake the entire tournament.”
“People underestimated them before the first whistle. Now look at them. Every opponent they've faced has been forced to respect them the hard way. That's what happens when a team plays with heart, courage and absolute belief.”
“To the Mexican fans... enjoy this moment because you've earned it. You've carried this team with your voices, your passion and your faith. Tonight your players repaid every kilometre travelled and every tear you've shed supporting this badge.”
“Ecuador fought with everything they had, but Mexico wanted history more. That's the difference. In knockout football, talent alone isn't enough you need warriors. Tonight Mexico looked like an army.”
“And to every team still left in this World Cup... be careful. This Mexico side is no longer chasing respect they've already taken it. Now they're chasing the trophy, and if you underestimate them, you'll be the next team going home.”
🎙️🚨 Thierry Henry after Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick vs Algeria
🗣️ “Messi is genuinely the most underrated player I’ve ever seen. He’s getting closer to 1000 goals too. When he achieves that, I’d kick anyone in the head who compares him to humans again
He left Europe so other players could shine. We all know he is still the best player in the world. Olise and Yamal is next, but for now let’s keep enjoying Messi. He breathes modern and ancient football
How many players have scored a hat-trick in the first round of the game at the World Cup? Not many. He doesn’t chase records,he is the records. The earth is 7.9 billion years old and I came in Messi’s era. I’m lucky.” 👏
So tonight Inter might (should) win their 21st scudetto and as far as I'm concerned it's probably the least expected trophy of my life as an Inter fan. I expected Antonio Conte to win it sooner or later. I expected Simone Inzaghi to win it sooner or later. I expected Mancini/Mourinho to win it.
What really stands out is that it's done with the same base of players that ran into a brick wall last season aiming for a treble, finishing with "nothing". It's also done with a manager that had 13 (!) Serie A games at Parma, fighting for survival, on his CV, before taking Inter, a giant.
I'm not going to lie, when Chivu took over, I was skeptical, and I consider myself in the top 1% of optimistic Inter fans, sometimes too optimistic, but yeah, nobody could make sense of the choice at the time, which is an incredible hat's off to the Inter board. Chivu himself. And the group of players, whom I sincerely never doubted, even though they lost what they lost.
Javier Zanetti on José Mourinho:
"I’ll never forget the 2010 Champions League semifinal against Barcelona. On the bus to Camp Nou, Mourinho grabbed my arm and said, 'Today’s game will end in our favor. Let’s qualify for the final, guys,' he said confidently.
I asked him, 'How can you be so sure?'
His response: 'We’re hungrier than they are!'
That fired us up. Mourinho had this incredible ability to motivate us, to make us believe. He was a genius.
When we went out for warm-ups, he gathered us and said, 'Listen up, guys. Our dream is right here. Let’s go for it. I’ll walk out first, and you all follow me. The Barcelona fans will hate me. They’ll shout, curse, and insult me. After that, it’s on you.'
Throughout the match, every time I was near Eto’o, I’d tell him, 'Forza Samuel, you just need a bit of luck to score'
And he’d reply, 'Captain, it won’t be long now.'
Finally, when the final whistle blew and we had won, Mourinho raised his hand to the Barcelona fans and jumped like a child, saying, 'We’ve beaten you!' We were all with him.
Mourinho's provocations were part of his strategy. The stadium staff even turned on the sprinklers to stop us from celebrating on the pitch.
If Mourinho had asked us to jump into the fire, we would’ve done it. Under his leadership, we were never afraid of anyone."
🚨🗣️Wesley Sneijder: "The worst moment in my career was leaving Real Madrid. I felt insulted when I went to the stadium and found my locker empty and all my belongings set aside."
"I went to talk to the president, but he didn't give me enough time and simply told me that I was no longer part of their plans and that they wanted to win the Champions League."
"Before leaving, I said to him: "Sir, you should know that wherever I go, I will play to win."
"Two days later, Mourinho called me. I think he got my number through Chivu, because I didn't know him personally before."
"He said to me: "Wesley, I know your situation there is difficult. Come to Inter, and we'll win everything together."
"With Mourinho, it was love at first sight. He assured me that I was one of his most important players and that together we would win the Champions League."
"He probably said that to everyone, but believe me, a year with him feels like 10 years with any other coach."
"How did it end? As you know, I won the Champions League at the Bernabéu, placed the trophy in front of my locker, and said: "I always keep my promises." It was the best moment in my career."
🏆⚫️🔵 Dumfries has no doubt: Inter are favorites to win Serie A
🗣️ “We have an excellent team. We learned from last year’s mistakes and for me, we’re the favorites.
But we must show it with the hunger of not winning last year.” (to DAZN)
Since we passed the Affordable Care Act, Republicans have tried over and over to repeal it. And over and over, they’ve failed — in part because millions of people now depend on the ACA for quality, affordable health care.
Now Republicans are trying something different: quietly weakening the law and hoping you won’t notice. We can’t let them.
