@roguecaliber Finishing up our 5e Spelljammer game (fingers crossed). After that I'll pitch options for next game. Current shortlist: DCC (campaign of published modules), Mothership, Burning Wheel, His Majesty the Worm, Call of Cthulhu (Masks), The One Ring (Tales from the Lone-Lands)
@RetroGamer_Meph Thanks! Saltmarsh and Eveningstar both came up many times in my searches, so that's a good sign. Also Under Illefarn for what is worth. I'm curious too how well modern OSR/OSE adventures would work with 2e since some of them appear quite good.
@roguecaliber @RetroGamer_Meph@noeldacosta Coming back to this idea, which books would y'all include for a "by the book" 2e experience? Just the core 3? I remember being enthralled by the Complete X expansions, but that was probably my teen brain just wanting more D&D.
@domino44maps I can't make out what is going on in #1 or #4, so have to rule them out for that reason (are those doors in a mountain?). I don't think elves would hollow out a tree as shown in #3. As such, #2 is the best fit of these four. It gives a sad and solemn resting place vibe.
@RetroGamer_Meph@noeldacosta @roguecaliber Got it, thanks! It sounds like familiarity is the big factor vs any specific approach to game play or rules or whatever.
@RetroGamer_Meph@noeldacosta @roguecaliber I'm intrigued by the idea of going back and playing *by the book* 2e just to see how it holds up vs my memory of it. Similar feelings about B/X or BECMI, although I have OSE for that if I want to.
@RetroGamer_Meph@noeldacosta @roguecaliber Yeah, I started with B/X for reading/solo and the playing with BECMI. I think we played a little 1e, but quickly moved to 2e for 4 years or so. After a long break, played 4e, 5e, and tons of other games (non-D&D, but also D&D variants).
@RetroGamer_Meph@noeldacosta @roguecaliber I've got similar play history, except haven't gone back to older editions. Curious why you prefer 2e to B/X or BECMI or even something like Pathfinder? 2e has a special place in my heart b/c of how much we played it in the day and would love to hear from someone still playing.
@riseupcomus They made a video of "shuffling" them. It's maybe what you would expect or perhaps do with paper cards you really care about - just make piles. π
