Tomorrow, August 30…
What does this date mean?!

On the morning of August 30, 2005, Lebanese people woke up to news reported by local and international media that Prosecutor General at the Court of Cassation Saeed Mirza, Head of the Information Branch Wissam al-Hassan, together with the International Investigation Commission headed by the German Detlev Mehlis and Gerhard Lehmann, had arrested Major General Jamil al-Sayyed and three senior Lebanese officers on charges of assassinating President Rafik Hariri with the participation of Syrian officers!!

Less than three months after that “achievement,” it became clear that our arrest had been based on false witnesses, numbering 13 witnesses, headed by the two Syrians Muhammad Zuhair al-Siddiq and Hutham Hutham. At the time, they were adopted by the March 14 camp and recruited by the International Investigation Commission, in collusion with Prosecutor General Saeed Mirza, Lieutenant Colonel Wissam al-Hassan, and others, with the blessing of Saad Hariri, as is conclusively established in the documents that we later received from the Special Tribunal between 2009 and 2018…

In 2009, after the Special Tribunal released us, it refused to prosecute the false witnesses, claiming that it had no jurisdiction to do so, even though interrogating them would have led to revealing who had recruited them to mislead the investigation and consequently to uncovering the real killers…

On the other hand,
and under pressure from my repeated demands, the Special Tribunal was forced to hand over to me the files and testimonies of the false witnesses. It then ruled, on August 18, 2020, that the United Nations and the Lebanese state should apologize to me and my colleagues and compensate us for the four years of political and arbitrary detention…

The important point is this:

Through the documents from the Special Tribunal that I possess, the involvement of Wissam al-Hassan with Mirza, the Deputy Head of the International Investigation Commission, German investigator Gerhard Lehmann, and others from the March 14 team in arranging the false witnesses becomes apparent—particularly the recruitment of the “king” of false witnesses, Muhammad Zuhair al-Siddiq, whom Hassan and Lehmann met repeatedly in Saudi Arabia and then in France in order to coach him in his false testimony, with the participation and presence of Saad Hariri in Paris in September 2005, according to the official documents I received from the Tribunal…

The matter did not end there.

In October 2012, Wissam al-Hassan was assassinated, and his killer remains unknown to this day!! The investigation was swept under the rug, and the female spy who had been in his apartment that morning and left before the explosion was smuggled out?!

Before him, Major Wissam Eid was killed in 2008 after Gerhard Lehmann and Wissam al-Hassan tasked him with manipulating the identities of the owners of the six telephone lines that had participated in the assassination, in order to direct the accusation toward others. We were the ones who uncovered those lines immediately after the assassination.

And, as happened with Wissam al-Hassan, no serious investigation was conducted into the assassination of Wissam Eid, and the truth has been suppressed to this day…

Likewise, they prevented any serious investigation into all the previous assassinations that took place between 2005 and 2009 and targeted the martyrs from Gebran Tueni onward. Each time, they contented themselves with directing political and media accusations at Syria instead of conducting serious investigations and uncovering the killers.
And the question remains: who killed Rafic Hariri?!

لا يوجد خطاب أو كلام لجوزاف عون إلاّ وكان مليئاً بالثغرات والعبثيات وقلة الوطنية وسذاجة بالسياسة، مما سهَّل على المنتقدين السخرية منه وفضح سياسته التي تخدم العدو.
رغيد ورشا هما مِن أفضل مَن انتقد كلام جوزاف عون بأسلوب ساخر وفكاهي.
