These are a group of saints who became especially popular in Europe during times of plague, war, and other crises. Catholics have traditionally invoked them for help in urgent needs, illness, and protection.

Here are the 14 Holy Helpers and the causes for which they are traditionally invoked:

1. St. Achatius (Agathius),
against headaches and
anxiety about death.

2. St. Barbara – against sudden
or unprovided death.

3. St. Blaise – for illnesses of
the throat.

4. St. Catherine of Alexandria –
for students, philosophers,
and against sudden death.

5. St. Christopher – for
travelers and protection from
danger.

6. St. Cyriacus – against
temptation and demonic
oppression.

7. St. Denis (Dionysius) –
against headaches.

8. St. Erasmus (Elmo) – for
abdominal ailments and
sailors.

9. St. Eustace – in family
troubles and difficult trials.

battle.

Does the Catholic Church

Yes. The Church permits and has long encouraged devotion to these saints as a private devotion, but Catholics do not believe the saints have power apart from God. The saints are asked to pray for us, just as we ask fellow Christians to pray for us.

Prayer to St. Clare of Assisi

O glorious St. Clare of Assisi,
faithful disciple of Jesus Christ and devoted follower of St. Francis, you renounced the riches of this world to embrace a life of poverty, prayer, and perfect trust in God.

Obtain for me the grace to love Christ above all things and to seek His holy will in every moment of my life. Help me to grow in humility, purity, charity, and unwavering faith.

Pray that I may have the courage to follow the Gospel faithfully, to persevere in times of trial, and to place my complete confidence in God's loving providence.

Intercede for my family, my friends, and all those who ask for my prayers. Comfort the suffering, strengthen the weak, protect the vulnerable, and lead sinners back to the mercy of God.
