Having said that, I believe the examination has become a lot about controlling your nerves as well. A lot of candidates press the panic button too early in the examination. You should know that attempting 60% questions is enough. But most give into the temptation and succumb.

It would be better to switch to a two paper model giving the candidates a chance to recover if they end up having 2 bad hours on a day. It can cost them a year, a huge opportunity cost.The cycle of the examination also needs to be shortened. Present 1 year cycle is too long. 3/3

UPSC seriously needs to reconsider the approach of 'eliminating' candidates through 100 questions alone out of which 50% are designed to be tough. It is harming the chances of good candidates who may easily fall through the cracks at the first stage itself. 1/3
