Paint was seen peeling from the floor of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, weeks after a $14 million renovation that included a new color President Trump called “American Flag Blue.”
Cool conditions to persist through the weekend, but a significant warm up remains on track for the middle to end of next week, focused inland of the beaches. #cawx
Friday, June 19, 2026, 6:29 AM PDT/9:29 AM EDT: The latest solutions of 0Z, 6Z, and EU1 have not changed in the last 4 days at all! In fact, now continues to show higher confidence in the northward trajectory of tropical interaction July 1 - 5, 2026, and possible monsoonal moisture June 24 - 27, 2026, with a 594 DM heat dome axis that will bring a heatwave to all of California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada, which continues the trend as well sadly.
Projected Temperatures 104F - 115F with high humidty values above 45% to 69%, especially from San Joaquin, San Fernando, Santa Clarita, Simi, Moreno Valley, Antelope, Apple, Lucerne, Coachella, Imperial Valleys to Phoenix, Arizona, could allow for possible excessive heat, watches, or excessive heat warnings are not out of the question. Many residents are not prepared for the sudden shift from extremely cool temperatures to extremely oppressive heat and humidity in less than a week, possibly followed by tropical weather for your July 4 weekend.
I’m continuing to monitor this fast-evolving heat wave situation and the now tropical system for July 1 - 5, 2026, which continues to trend.
• First Summer Heatwave and Monsoonal moisture trending June 24 - 27, 2026
• Rare Tropical interaction July 1 - 5, 2026

BREAKING: Trump’s sick bedroom habits and life with Melania EXPOSED in bombshell new book!
Seems that behind closed doors, Donald Trump is pretty friggin’ gross. According to the new book from NYT reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, the commander-in-chief’s private White House nighttime routine includes multiple snack disasters, trash strewn all over, soaked bathroom carpets, and staff scrambling to keep the place clean without going bonkers.
Called Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump, the new book discloses that staff even had to start monitoring the trash after Trump was allegedly caught throwing out White House sterling silver utensils, about as a clear a case of waste, fraud, and abuse of governmental resources as we’ve ever heard.
The book also claims Trump insisted on having carpet in the bathroom, including near the shower, where staff worried about moisture and mold. Because (and we’re believing Haberman and Swan here) he won't use a normal bath mat like a normal human being, staff is obliged to surreptitiously rotate pieces of matching carpet, drying them out, and swapping them back in.
From there, the journalistic dynamic duo move into the, ahem, bedrooms, reporting that Trump and Melania most certainly do not share one.
In what should surprise no one, they report that Mel has taken the traditional master bedroom, while Trump is relegated to the “second floor living room” next door.
Thus exiled, they write, Trump took keen interest in some cool furnishings of the master bedroom, and moved items Melania had personally selected into his own room, and pooh-poohed the hapless staff when they uncomfortably pointed this out.
“Once, when staff gently reminded the president that he was taking things his wife had personally selected, he made clear he didn’t care,” the intrepid investigators wrote. “He seemed almost to be competing with her – determined to have the better room.”
Er, yes, this is an amusing insight into *chez* Trump, but lest we forget, working Americans are worrying about bills, health care, housing, and democracy itself.
Trump, conversely, is spending his off hours reportedly in combat with his maids over Starbucks bags, Mickey-D’s wrappers, and bathroom carpets, not to mention the art objects he covets from his wife next door.
Does this surprise us? No. Should the likes Donald Trump be President of the United States? No.
Elevated wildfire risk will continue each day for foreseeable future across some portion of interior West. Through Sat, a broad region of dry thunderstorm potential will arise within drought/snow drought zones following recent heatwave, with relatively high risk of new ignitions.

For the first time in history, Earth may require a negative leap second.
Scientists report that our planet’s recent acceleration in rotation speed could soon compel global timekeepers to subtract a second from official time, an unprecedented step never taken before.
Since atomic clocks were developed in the 1950s, researchers have measured Earth’s rotation with extreme precision. They found that a day is not always exactly 24 hours. Its length fluctuates by tiny amounts, usually milliseconds, as the planet’s spin speeds up or slows down. These variations are imperceptible to humans but critical for modern technology.
GPS satellites, telecommunications, financial markets, and computer networks all depend on ultra-precise timing. For decades, Earth’s long-term trend was a gradual slowing, largely due to tidal friction caused by the Moon’s gravity. To keep atomic time (UTC) aligned with solar time, officials have added 27 positive leap seconds since 1972.
Recently, however, Earth has been spinning noticeably faster. July 5, 2024, marked the shortest day ever recorded, completing its rotation 1.66 milliseconds early. Several other days in recent years have come close to this record.
Much of this acceleration is attributed to dynamic processes in Earth’s liquid outer core, where shifts in mass distribution can alter rotation speed, analogous to a figure skater spinning faster by drawing in their arms.
If the current trend persists, the world could face its first negative leap second, in which one second is removed rather than added to official time.
We are not on the verge of losing a second immediately. Many experts anticipate that leap seconds will be phased out entirely by international agreement before a negative one becomes necessary.

IRAN HAS CLOSED THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ AGAIN AFTER ISRAEL BOMBED LEBANON.
The IRGC Navy warns that NO vessel should attempt to cross.
Iran says the Strait will remain CLOSED until Israel withdraws from Lebanon, the naval blockade is fully lifted, and U.S. forces leave the Persian Gulf and the region.
The IRGC is broadcasting a warning on maritime frequencies:
“The Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until these conditions are met.”
“Any vessel that defies this directive will be TARGETED.”
The move comes after Israeli strikes on Southern Lebanon and Israel’s refusal to withdraw from Lebanese territory.
📺 SEE IT: President Biden handled Medal of Honor ceremonies the way he handled the presidency: steady, competent, dignified, and never making the moment about himself.
Trump, meanwhile, fumbled with it like he fumbled the country: awkward, confused, exhausting, and somehow making a simple task feel like a national crisis.
Where the hell is Jake Tapper’s emergency age panel when we actually need it?

This is the best depiction of the Cold Blob I’ve seen. It’s from @ed_hawkins, but it’s a little different, so follow along…
There’s a peculiar and eerie blue cold blob in a sea of red warming. It sticks out like a sore thumb. It’s a canary in the climate coal mine because it signals the system is breaking down. It’s been there for years and was predicted by climate models. It never goes away. It’s called the North Atlantic “Warming Hole”. It was the basis for the Sci-Fi movie The Day After Tomorrow, a wildly exaggerated depiction, but the concept is real.
The map below is a little different than most maps you see: the blues are where the planet is warming more slowly than the average - but keep in mind that the whole planet - even most of the blues are still warming - except one place - the North Atlantic near Greenland. That area is actually eerily cooling - because of fresh water from melting Greenland ice, less sea ice, and more rain is less salty and doesn’t sink as fast. That is slowing the whole Atlantic circulation (AMOC) which is arguably the most important circulation on Earth, responsible for 25% of northward heat transfer from the tropics to the Arctic. Since the AMOC is slowing - due to Global Warming - less heat from the tropics is getting to the North Atlantic and creating the Cold Blob/ Warming Hole. It’s a sign of danger because it signals that humanity may be approaching a tipping point in the climate which could eventually collapse the #AMOC and that would trigger worldwide consequences. I wrote and article and made a video. I’ll post the link in the comments… #climatechange #climate #STEM #science
