I have often been told that the best sandwich chain in America is Wawa, a gas station chain in the mid Atlantic. To say I was dubious is an understatement! But recently I decided to find out.

REVIEW

Wawa it turns out is a gas station but it also has a staffed hot food/sandwich counter. They have many locations in the Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, DC area.
The location I visited in Annapolis was clean and well-lit.
It accepts all major credit cards.

To order food, you use an electronic touchscreen. The interface of the touchscreen was intuitive and well designed. Menu items are accompanied by model photos of the food. The font of the text was highly readable. After selecting a sandwich you are presented with many options to customize toppings, cheese, seasonings, and more. These customizations do not appear to come at any cost.

I ordered an Italian hoagie.

The machine gave me a ticket with a number. I was instructed to pay at the gas station counter while the Wawa food artists worked on my sandwich.

The employees were kind and expeditious in their work. After paying, it was a mere minute or two before my number was called and my Italian hoagie was handed to me.

Outside, I interrogated the oblong shaped sandwich. The ingredients matched what the menu had indicated. The toppings and dressings I had requested were properly applied.

Having checked these boxes I then proceeded through the green light and ate the sandwich, which, in this critic’s opinion, tasted exactly like a sandwich that was made at a gas station.

@hello_newton @CrucibleOfWords I'm of the view Thalia is (now was) THE tax on these blue dig spells and wasn't just "better" adopted by blue / part of the blue arms race. Thalia's decline represents what was a key pillar... now sorely missing in the general sense.
