@mcuban Mark, most enterprise needs (coming from a former F50 Enterprise CIO) are deterministic, defined with runbooks that regulators review. The need for true agentic decision making is limited and being used as excuse for lack of innovation and SDLC slowdowns.
@swapnakpanda If AIs code writing and architecting skills continue to improve it will go from senior to junior to business analyst. Business controls budgets. Requirements. Why wouldn’t they just take over their own destiny. Does IT then become the janitors of tech
Hi @APompliano should do podcast once more! IMO, code gen has never made businesses more productive. Problem was never writing code, it was the resources diverted to maintaining it once it was written... set it and forget it... more like set it and pray. My prediction is AI outside code gen eliminates switching costs. So the best products and services win. Those businesses who have had bad customer success/pricing will go out of business entirely. Darwinism enabled by efficient onboarding/offboarding. My 2 centrs
@catalinmpit My first engineering job was taking over cleanup of bugs from another senior engineer. The entire code base was wrapped in what would today be called a "try/catch" and there was nothing in the catch. Yet that is still better than the AI slop of today.
@mert writing the code was the easiest part... until it gets to production. then the nightmare begins. so few people pay for that nightmare and see how much it holds your business back.
When the business builds the software from just a specification, no dropping into code when vibe breaks, no code reviews, no maintenance worries, what’s the value of these agentic coders when they are not burning any tokens?
