At a minimum pumping water uphill from energy created from wind turbines or solar panels stores energy as potential energy, a process known as pumped hydro storage (PHS). When there is surplus electricity, water is pumped to a higher reservoir, converting electrical energy into stored gravitational potential energy. Later, the water can be released downhill through turbines to generate electricity when power is needed, with the process being about 70-85% efficient.

Hi Mr. Howe — hope this isn’t redundant, but I noticed The Fourth Turning says 85 years passed between Fort Sumter (1861) and Pearl Harbor (1941). That looks like 80 years. Is that a typo or is another date meant? Thanks for the great work!
