TONIGHT on #WFMU's @GTDRadio A journey through the world of Kendra Smith, David Roback, & Hope Sandoval, beginning w/Kendra's punk debut & winding through the heart of the Paisley Underground, Opal, Mazzy Star & beyond!
Technically speaking, tho, *every* Omar Khorshid album is the very best of Omar Khorshid. Omar Khorshid, The Very Best Of Omar Khorshid (Belly Dance Delights) (Voix De L'Orient/EMI, 1979).
Mind-blowing sounds on this incredible new release. Himba performers recorded by Ian Brennan, Himba Hymn - Ghosts of Namibia's Skeleton Coast (@SublimeFreq, 2026).
Finally scored Volume 1, completing the set! Laila Morad Volumes 1, 2 and 3 (Soutelphan, 1975). One of the greatest Egyptian voices of all time. Is it coincidental that Oum had passed just months before these were released, or had Wahab & Hafez been sitting on them, waiting ... ?
Smith/Roback/Sandoval World Domination Update: Critical mass reached w/acquisition of this short but stunning EP: Kendra Smith Presents The Guild Of Temporal Adventurers, s/t (Fiasco, 1992). A 3-hour Smith/Roback show centered around Opal's tempting, or do we need Mazzy/Sandoval?
Smith Roback Sandoval World Domination Update: Nabbed their elusive bootleg! Opal, Early Recordings Vol. 2 (not on label, 2018). Lo-fi, but far from unlistenable. Looking forward to putting together a show in the very near future ...
LET THE MUSIC EAT YOU | 7-10 PM EDT

TONIGHT on #WFMU's @GTDRadio An all-vinyl show feat. 21st Century Euro dub, Maghrebi trance, Brooklyn pirate radio, Libyan folk poetry, Texas industrial, distressed pop from Australia, Québécois electronic, J-Punk & more
Super #SmithRobackSandoval nostalgia hit: I first heard this in a railroad apartment in San Francisco's Western Addition ca. 1988. Rainy Day, s/t (Klimt Records 2025 RE of OG 1984 Llama Records). Had no context for it then; love it now, esp. Kendra's vocals on Chilton's Holocaust
Smith Roback Sandoval update: Pre-Opal live recording from the year Rainy Day came out. Clay Allison, Live at the Electric Banana 5-22-1984. Terrific version of David's No Easy Way Down (titled "Cherry Jam" on this boot). What this LP lacks in hi-fi, it makes up for in intensity.
Another addition to the multi-tentacled Smith/Roback/Sandoval World Takeover: Kendra Smith, Stille Im Meine Hamburg (Overzealous Editions), a strange one-off written by Jonah Corey. The two would go on to form The Guild Of Temporal Adventurers w/ Orson, Eergott Liqueure & others
The Smith/Roback/Sandoval World Domination Project slowly inches forward w/ items in the mail today, including this crucial contractual obligation LP: Opal, Early Recordings (Rough Trade, 1989).
Death Is Not the End's pirate radio series is mind-blowing; first listen to David Goren's Brooklyn Pirates: Neighbourhoods In The Sky, 2014–2021 (2025), which I had high hopes for & which the LP exceeds. Love love love this
I loved his first record, Songs of Horaman; this new one is every bit as powerful. Mohammad Mostafa Heydarian, Noor-e Vojood (Radio Khiyaban, Cardinal Fuzz, Centripetal Force, 2025).
South Korea on Vinyl 7-10 PM EDT

TONIGHT on #WFMU's @GTDRadio we're spinning soul, funk, folk, psychedelic, DIY, and disco on wax from the Republic of Korea. Join us!
SOUND ON: First listen to one of a dozen new Libyan 45s received in the mail today. Hassan Al-Bousaifi, Lemlaya (Voice of the Desert, date u/k, Benghazi).
Ripping this & over two dozen other South Korean heaters for this coming Wednesday's show. Kim Choo Ja, Deluxe Album (2020 Yejeon Media RE of 1971 Universal OG). Phenomenal track after phenomenal track on this thing, not surprising, given they were all written by Shin Jung Hyeon
