6 months out from a 20 year long relationship and I can see with clarity now that it was abusive. Made this account to help me process but I hope it helps someone else who may have been through/is going through a similar situation. 💖
@HiddenAbuse Yes! My ex has an epic screaming match every Mother’s Day with our oldest daughter. He continued the tradition unfortunately despite us splitting last fall.
Every Mother’s Day he screams in rage at our oldest. I used to beg him not to the night before. Now at least she can come home and have a safe space. 💖
Called for help and was hospitalized. This was 2/2019. I just realized tonight how abusive and sick that was. At the time I was worried because I knew he would be disappointed that I couldn’t control myself by not taking them if they were there.
Made a suicide safety plan with my bishop & X. Gave X the bag of medicines I had planned to take & he was to take them to work with him so I could be safe alone. The next morning I came downstairs and the meds were on the kitchen counter. I sat down so I wouldn’t take them.
Because you made me believe that I'm too sensitive. You called me a doll, you loved the doll, but the moment the doll spoke, or stood up for herself, it made you angry. #narcissisticabuse#selflove#healing
So important to evaluate this! I spent so much time being tricked into evaluating my own faults constantly that I didn’t see what was happening in the relationship.
Are you in a toxic relationship? If a relationship makes you:
— Walk on eggshells about confronting mistreatment because you know you will be raged at and invalidated
— Fear retaliation for expressing your feelings...see image for more red flags. #narcissisticabuse
I apologized to you when you yelled at me, when you walked out on me, when you threw things, when you insulted me publicly. I apologized because I believed it was my fault. Because you made me believe I couldn't manage small things. #narcissisticabuse#selflove#healing
A narcissist's favourite weapon of mass destruction. Sprinkling some events that have never happened, things that have never been said and passing them off as the truth. Constantly altering and distorting reality. #narcissisticabuse
Courage is continuing with your life as best as you can after trauma.
Courage is showing up every day for your kids even when you’re going through abuse.
Courage is reminding yourself that this too will pass.
Courage is not giving up.

I know someone whose ex would sit with his arm around her like they were loved up.
He'd secretly be pinching her & twisting as hard as he could on soft skin to let her know *when to shut the feck up & to stop talking* in company. 😈

Thread: A Few Guidelines for Co-Parenting with an abusive Ex-Spouse
Co-Parenting with an abusive ex-spouse can be one of the most difficult dynamics. While everyone’s situation is unique, here are a few principles I have encouraged in my practice over the years.
When I finally got up enough courage to leave and told my mom she told me she was angry I wasn’t trying harder to fight for my marriage. She asked me if it was “your new therapists idea?!”
Believe someone when they say they need to leave - abuse is often invisible to others!!
@Caddicarus When someone destroys possessions, punches walls, or acts out violently around the person being "punished" it's not "better". It's the abuser showing you how much they would hurt you if they had the chance. It's disgusting to call psychological abuse "good parenting"
