“Hope, dignity and new beginnings in Jodhpur.”

Under the S-ILF Samvaad initiative, the @SILFIndia CEO Mr @GaurabSen, visited the Gandhi Kusht Ashram in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, where the residents warmly welcomed him. He interacted closely with community members, with a special focus on women’s empowerment and their leadership in the colony.

During the visit, ulcer care kits, crutches and wheelchairs were distributed to residents, followed by a vibrant colony interaction in which women participated in large numbers. The discussions centred on children’s education, small livelihood start-ups and strengthening the future of families in the colony.

He interacted warmly with residents, gaining deep insights into their daily challenges. He distributed solar lamps, tarpaulin sheets, and ulcer care kits as part of our Humanitarian Aid efforts- bringing light, protection, and care to those who need it most.

Engines roaring, hearts racing, stigma breaking. 🏍🔥

@SILFIndia organised the first-ever “Ride With Us” awareness campaign in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, engaging the biker community and youth as champions to spread the message: “Know Leprosy To No Leprosy.”​

Through a symbolic bike rally, riders, some with persons affected by leprosy as pillion partners, toured the city, distributing informative pamphlets and challenging myths around leprosy as a curable, non-contagious disease.​

Flagged off by the S-ILF CEO Mr @GaurabSen, the ride culminated at Gandhi Ashram Leprosy Colony, where riders interacted with residents and took a pledge to stand against stigma and discrimination.

This initiative reinforces S-ILF’s commitment to awareness, inclusion, and dignity for persons and families affected by leprosy.

Every year, over 2 lakh people are diagnosed with leprosy worldwide, and more than half of them are from India. For many, the disease may be gone, but discrimination and social rejection remain.

Sasakawa-India Leprosy Foundation (S-ILF) works to ensure that no one is left behind because of a disease they once had. From 7 regions and 21 states, S-ILF is helping individuals and families from leprosy colonies move from dependency to dignity — through education, livelihood support, Humanitarian Aid, Children Development and awareness.

Today - Over 3,200 families now run their own small businesses, 1,600 youth have pursued higher studies and skills training, 1,700 children learn and grow in after-school centres, thousands received humanitarian aid support - all while awareness campaigns continue to replace stigma with understanding

Recently I visited a leprosy colony in Kalimpong, West Bengal. One has to step down at least 200 stiff stairs to reach the first house in the colony. Their first reaction once they met us, was 'hume kaise dhoond liya aap logon ne?' (how did you find us?).
