#ExpressView | The abundant images yesterday — of thousands of mostly young and mostly peaceful protestors facing barricades and lathi charge and tear gas shells in the heart of the national capital — were stark and dispiriting. They indict the government.
The protestors were reportedly responding to the call of the satirical online platform, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), to march to Parliament. The CJP has been conducting a sit-in protest since June 20 at Jantar Mantar, from where Sonam Wangchuk, fasting since June 28, was forcibly taken to a hospital on Saturday.

But the protestors were arguably responding to more than one fast or one platform. They were rallying behind the issue that is being highlighted — the urgent need to reform a broken education system, beset with exam leaks, delays and irregularities, which leads, in turn, to swelling the ranks of the unemployed. spokespersons of the CJP. Acutely aware but dismissive of the "noise" around his future in international cricket, veteran Indian batting star Rohit Sharma says he knows that speculation won't stop till he is playing, but he would rather focus on scoring runs instead of fighting it.

"If selectors wanted to move on from Rohit Sharma then they should have told him the same after 2025 Champions Trophy. Doing this now in 2026 is very wrong with World Cup very close where Rohit Sharma has done decent.

Petrol blended with 20 per cent ethanol (E20) can reduce fuel economy by 3-5 per cent in some vehicles, the Oil Ministry said on Friday, but argued the impact is outweighed by benefits, including a higher octane rating, superior anti-knock characteristics, faster combustion, better pickup, smoother acceleration, cleaner engine operation, and lower lifecycle carbon emissions.

In a detailed question-and-answer document issued to counter criticism of the Ethanol Blended Petrol Programme, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said E20 was a "cleaner, higher-quality and more efficient fuel" than E10 or pure petrol and had been rolled out only after years of scientific testing, consultations with automobile manufacturers and the expansion of domestic ethanol production.

The ministry rejected concerns that the programme had been implemented too quickly, saying India's ethanol blending initiative dates back to pilot projects launched in 2001, with 5 per cent blending introduced in parts of the country by 2006.
