Wailing and gnashing of teeth…
Where the fire is never quenched…
The worm dies not…
Weeping….darkness….a bottomless pit….the lower parts of the Earth…
Mindfulness (kavanah) in the Judeo-Christian tradition is rooted in the Shema, the daily intention to love God and neighbor, the inevitable distraction (forgetting), and the willful returning over and over again—what Paul calls “pray without ceasing.”
With each new generation the authority of the natural world increasingly becomes clay in the hands of our imagination to our own purposes and pleasures.
I’m sharing some of my Jesus paintings with @AxiomChurch for their liturgy in July/August. Pastors @gavalanched and @micah_bentley are new soul friends.
Don’t fall for thinking that not picking a side is privilege. Building bridges and setting tables by definition stands with both and says that neither justice nor liberation are enough by themselves. Only restoration will be enough, the lion and the lamb reconciled.
@AndyStanley Amen. I think I would add “doing and becoming” to the list as well. Past the stages of heads, hands and hearts is the relational...the true treasure in the field.
@____arnold It is my heart for the noble cause itself that I make this first statement. EX: As I said, “Christians/evangelicals are more known for what they are against than what they are for.” And yet this is the very characteristic that defines ex-vangelicals like myself.
@____arnold Amen! I’m all for passion :) Nothing wrong with that. The trouble comes when our cause becomes our brand. As soon as that happens we are more known for what we are against than what we are for and in doing so we set the trap that ends up catching our leg instead.
