Thousands of migrants are fleeing South Africa amid xenophobic violence and ahead of planned anti-immigrant protests on June 30. Malawi, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana, and Mozambique are repatriating citizens following the events, with many camping outside consular offices.

"The Army Does Not Salute Money And Neither Does This Republic"On the Dangerous Ambitions of Kudakwashe Tagwirei and the Threat He Poses to ZANU-PF's Institutional Integrity.
I am a soldier. I was a soldier before most of the young men now whispering Tagwirei's name in provincial party meetings were born. I carried a weapon in the liberation struggle. I watched comrades fall in the operational zones of Mozambique and Zambia.
I served this Republic through the National Army, through the Defence Forces, through decades of institutional discipline that demanded one thing above all else that no individual, regardless of his resources, his connections, or his ambitions, ever became larger than the institution he served.
I write today because that principle the principle that kept this nation from the fate of others on this continent is under threat the source of that threat is not an external enemy.
It is not a sanctions regime. It is not a hostile foreign government operating through proxies. It is a criminal tenderprenuer from Harare who has mistaken the warmth of state proximity for the authority of state power.
His name is criminal Kudakwashe Tagwirei.
What he is doing to ZANU-PF must be named, must be documented, and must be stopped. In the operational theatre, we were taught to read the terrain before we read any map.
The map tells you what should be there. The terrain tells you what is actually there. The wise commander trusts the terrain.
I am reading the terrain of Zimbabwean politics today, and what I see is not what the official maps describe. The official map shows a ruling party with functioning democratic centralism, legitimate provincial structures, and a Central Committee that remains the supreme authority of ZANU-PF. That is the map.
The terrain tells a different story.
The terrain shows provincial officials whose political loyalty has been purchased rather than earned.
It shows senior party figures whose access to resources and therefore whose political survival flows not from the party's internal structures but from one man's commercial empire.
It shows a gravitational field that has been quietly constructed around criminal Kudakwashe Tagwirei, pulling party officials into orbit around a private citizen who holds no constitutional office, commands no liberation war credentials, and answers to no electoral mandate.
In military terms, this is what we call a parallel command structure. And in every military doctrine ever written, a parallel command structure is not a management challenge. It is an existential threat to institutional integrity.
Those of us who have served long enough in uniform have seen what happens when private power begins to replicate the functions of institutional authority.
We saw it in other African militaries. We saw it in other liberation movements that survived the colonial enemy only to be hollowed out from within by men who confused proximity to power with the possession of it.
The pattern is always the same. First, the private actor accumulates resources on the back of state contracts and state protection.
Second, those resources become a source of patronage officials begin to depend on the private actor for things the party or state can no longer reliably provide.
Third, the private actor begins to exercise influence over appointments, over political positioning, over who rises and who is marginalised.
Fourth and this is the stage at which history consistently records the damage as irreversible the private actor begins to believe that his position is permanent, that the dependency he has created is loyalty, and that the party exists to serve his interests rather than the reverse.
Criminal Tagwirei is between the third and fourth stages. The window to correct this is narrowing.

BREAKING: It happened again.

25th Amendment now!
This is what has been unleashed in this country: a return to emboldened racism. They feel validated and vindicated. They no longer have to couch their bigotry in polite language. It can now, once again, be raw and visceral. This is what we are fighting people.
