オリーブの収穫の季節を迎え、ジャンナ・スクールでは楽しい催しが行われました！🫒✨

多くの木が失われてしまいましたが、子どもたちが伸び伸びと立派なオリーブの木を描いてくれました🎨🌱

Today, at the Jenna School, we all enjoyed celebrating the olive harvest season! The children created drawings and paintings, which they hung up on the classroom board. Then they sang songs and performed the *dabke* (traditional folk dance), then sat down to a spread of olive oil, olives, cheese, *za’atar* flatbreads, and slices of tomato and cucumber. It was a joyous occasion!

It has been exactly 4 weeks since the Jenna School opened its doors to the camp children and the impact it has already had on their lives is noticeable!

Teaching is focused on establishing a solid foundation in reading, writing (in both Arabic and English) and numeracy skills in advance of starting the national curriculum. Alongside education, vital work is being done to re-establish routine and provide the children with a much needed sense of security to free their minds and allow them to acquire knowledge.

The school is free to the children, of course, so we must appeal to you to meet our running costs. We simply cannot survive without your backing.

Even small amounts soon add up. We need your commitment please.

At Jenna School, teachers continue to instruct students in reading and writing letters, numbers, and words in both Arabic and English. This is part of an initiative to address the disruption to education caused by the war. You can see the children are actively engaged and really enjoying their lessons.

In addition, teachers spend time with the children each day helping them regain their everyday childhood senses and a sense of safety in their lives. This is vital after 3 years of constant battling to survive bombardment, starvation, horrific scenes and displacement.

Two weeks into the term, the students' proficiency levels are becoming clearer. As expected, the disruption to education caused by the war has produced gaps and delays in basic literacy and numeracy skills which the teachers are planning to tackle via a ‘rescue’ plan that I wholeheartedly support.

Education will focus on establishing a solid foundation in reading, writing (in both Arabic and English) and numeracy skills. Once this has been achieved, the children will be able to grasp subject lessons effectively.

Most importantly, emphasis will be placed on re-establishing routine and providing the children with a much needed sense of security that will free their minds and allow them to acquire knowledge.

We, at the Jenna School, feel confident that this approach will lead to every success and we are excited about the challenges ahead!

Today I popped into The Jenna School during a lesson in arithmetic. The teacher made learning so much fun and the children were loving it! See for yourselves!

The Jenna School will be following the Ministry of Education's curriculum plan which includes the following prescribed subjects: Arabic, English, Mathematics, National Education, and Science and Life (for third grade and above). We also look forward to adding a weekly Arts and Crafts lesson!

We will be handing out textbooks to the students and officially commencing the curriculum next week!

The opening of the Jenna School is the culmination of months of hard fundraising by the Tokyo Association to Support the Children of Gaza. The school has brought hope for the future, focus and a sense of much needed normalcy at this difficult time.

The next challenge is keeping it running. We must meet the running costs and cost of providing a snack to the pupils every day.

The teachers are working on grounding the children in the fundamentals of reading and writing, teaching them letters and numbers in both Arabic and English, as well as how to form simple sentences by identifying and naming the objects around them.

It is a great start, and one that holds great hope for the children. Thanks again to everyone who has worked tirelessly and donated time and money to make the Jenna School a reality.

Day 3 of the Jenna School and the children are loving it!
I captured a few minutes of their English and Arabic lessons on video and, as you can see, they are all fully engaged and very enthusiastic! I don’t think they even noticed the drone of the surveillance plane in the background.

Dear friends, colleagues at the Association for the Children of Gaza, dear donors all:

I write to you today with a heart full of joy and gratitude for what your indefatigable efforts have achieved on behalf of the children of Gaza. Your commitment, enthusiasm, creativity, generosity and love have transformed our dream, the Jenna School project, into reality: the Jenna School will open in September!

To every donor, we extend a heartfelt “thank you” for your generous spirit, for sharing our vision and investing in it. Your trust means more to us than you can imagine.
