but at least i'm out of that fuckass hospital chat
@dearg_amadan there's def a kernel of truth in the idea that newer bands have a much different tone and sound compared to e.g. wdu, i just think this zine author is kinda annoying and not good at making their point lol
@dearg_amadan oh don't get me wrong folk punk will always have a special place in my heart, this is me making fun of a zine that was saying that "real" folk punk had been replaced by "softcore" somewhere around 2019-2020
@ItBillyGote main thing is folk punk almost exclusively uses very simple "campfire" chord progressions, so while you can get funky and cut out all the major chords (entirely possible), acting like it's obligatory betrays a lack of musical knowledge and lack of knowledge about the genre
@wastedsight@bruh_moment5645 very true, though i will note that by far the standard in folk punk is to use simple "campfire chords" (often it's being performed by guitarists who are not exceptionally talented, though there are exceptions)
got this zine from a kid tabling outside the venue at a Rent Strike show. saw him 20 minutes later dripping wet, asked him what happened, and he went “someone yelled at me over that zine and poured their pepsi bottle out on me”
anyways i finally read it and they were right
@madis_sins one truly must wonder what their idea of "proper folk punk" would be. NO major chords NO amplification of any kind and you MUST shoot up on stage
