The increasing casualisation of the teaching profession is bad for teachers, bad for students, and bad for schools. It creates great anxiety amongst the teachers who are underemployed, and robs young people of a stable learning environment.

Tomorrow our wonderful Junior Doctors will stage a 72 hour walk out.

They are desperate, overworked and underpaid. This cannot go on.

The government is happy to watch the NHS crumble. Well NHS staff are not.

When I was a kid the teachers went on strike.

I don’t remember much about those occasions.

But I do remember the time that they gave up for school football matches on a Saturday, moonlit rambles on residential, France trips to speak the lingo, evening shows and swimming galas🙏

Children’s education is not suffering because teachers are on strike.

Children’s education is suffering from years of underfunding, undervaluing and lack of understanding of how stretched schools are.

It’s not self serving, not greedy, it’s wanting better for the children.

This will no doubt be an unpopular opinion, but I’ve always taken the stance that if the union votes for strike action, then members *must* act accordingly.

Otherwise we are fighting for fair pay, etc. for members who aren’t making the sacrifice we are.
