Sent by a current GW student. This stood out to me: “All activities, including activities of free expression on campus, will require reservation through the Division for Student Affairs.”

Wtf is meant by “all activities”?? Could be anything from a protest to a birthday party!

“Activities of free expression” is so vague as to include a conversation with another student. Does *that* count as an activity requiring reservation? (Never mind the fact that free expression that requires prior permission is, definitionally, *not* free expression.)

@remydomino @TLBM_LexLunar Otakon had like $80 or $85 badges (can’t remember exactly) and shipping was automatic, but was included in the cost. People did not feel bait-and-switched. Imo, *that* is what has people irked. We know we have a pricey hobby, but we want to feel like we’re being charged fairly.

That said, there's a *big* difference between the motorcade itself (in my opinion, a reasonable precaution for a risk-averse agency like the Secret Service) and how it's covered (wall-to-wall coverage, footage of the crowds and motorcade) in playing up the strongman atmosphere.

Not going to question her credentials—she's a professor who studies authoritarianism and I'm just Some Guy—but imagine if security was more lax and something happened on the way to or from the courthouse. The Secret Service's job is to expect the worst. They're not unreasonable.

NH debate sucked because instead of hitting back when attacked like I wanted to, I listened to advice about “pivoting” & not “punching down” on a CC who was at 7% & about to drop out. But it didn’t end my campaign.

After NH I finished 2nd in SC & NV, won 3 primaries, almost won Virginia on Super Tuesday, finished with the 3rd most delegates behind Trumps historic campaign & was reelected twice by 8 & 17 points

This kind of performative grift undermines the progressive cause in two ways:

It gives conservatives fodder to ridicule government as wasteful and incompetent.

It deprives communities of real solutions: Planting and establishing a tree costs ~$4300; cheaper than this grate.

18 USC § 115 makes it a crime to threaten the life of a government official, including a member of Congress. Is FPC saying that Chris Murphy should be “first in the stack” so they can give him cupcakes? Or are they saying he should get killed doing so? I’m guessing the latter.

The GOP is going to call any protest against them an insurrection to deliberately muddy the waters and protect the January 6 mob.

If they call a protest an insurrection, ask them which elected officials that group wanted to murder. (The answer is none, by the way.)

Expelling an elected official for expressing a policy disagreement in a way you disapprove of is dangerous. The point of a legislature is to discuss policy. If you eject everyone who does not express views exactly how you wish for them to, you quickly have one-party rule.

The FBI studied a set of 160 mass shootings. 40% committed suicide. Another 16% of shooters were killed by police. That means a majority of shooters don't survive to stand trial. Most don't expect to survive.
