HARARE β As debate over Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3 (CAB3) continues in Parliament, several legislators have accused its proponents of attempting to extend political terms of office without first seeking the consent of the voters.
Critics of the Bill argue that Zimbabweans went to the polls in August 2023 on the understanding that elected officials would serve for five years, as provided for under the Constitution.
They say any attempt to extend those terms to seven years without returning to the electorate undermines the principle that political power belongs to the people.
The Question Being Asked
Across constituencies, citizens continue to ask a simple question:
Who authorized the extra two years?
Voters elected Members of Parliament, local authorities and national leaders for a constitutionally defined term.
Opponents of CAB3 argue that elected officials cannot simply revise that arrangement for their own benefit after the election has already taken place.
For many Zimbabweans, this debate has become a test of accountability and respect for the voter.
A Growing Parliamentary Rebellion
As Parliament debates CAB3, more legislators have publicly expressed reservations or outright opposition to the proposal.
Many argue that Parliament's responsibility is to uphold the Constitution rather than alter its core democratic safeguards for political convenience.
The message coming from several constituencies has been clear:
π£οΈ Respect the voters.
π£οΈ Respect the Constitution.
π£οΈ Respect the five-year mandate.
"Mweya Wetsvina Wokurambira Pazvigaro"
In communities and on social media, some citizens have described CAB3 as reflecting a political culture of leaders refusing to leave office when their terms expire.
The criticism is that instead of focusing on jobs, healthcare, education, infrastructure and economic recovery, Parliament is being consumed by efforts to prolong political tenure.
Citizens continue to ask:
β Why not fix the economy?
β Why not create jobs?
β Why not improve hospitals?
β Why not strengthen state institutions?
People Versus Power
For opponents of CAB3, the issue is no longer simply about constitutional amendments.
It has become a debate about sovereignty.
Who ultimately decides?
The people or political elites?
Many Zimbabweans maintain that the answer is straightforward:
Power belongs to the people.
The Constitution belongs to the people.
Public office belongs to the people.
And any extension of political terms should require the consent of the people.
We The Citizens
The message from many citizens remains unchanged:
πΏπΌ Five years is what voters agreed to.
πΏπΌ Not seven years.
πΏπΌ Respect the Constitution.
πΏπΌ Respect the voters.
πΏπΌ Drop CAB3.
πΏπΌ We The Citizens.

βThe danger becomes clearer when Clause 8 is read together with Clause 3.
If Parliament elects the President, and the President in turn elects Senators, the process becomes circular!β

Fellow Zimbabweans,
Fellow Zimbabweans, today I address here on X due to the urgency of the matter.
On Wednesday, under unusual secrecy, President Emmerson Mnangagwa slipped out of the country in the dead of night.
No sirens.
No presidential convoy.
No official send-off.
No airport photographs.
No public announcement.
Mnangagwa arrived at the airport unannounced, in private cars, not his usual convoy with bikers.
Airport staff were cleared off as Mnangagwa made his way to a private lounge and straight to hangar and flew off in a private jet.
Soon after he left, another private jet loaded with gold flew off in the same direction.
Mnangagwaβs motorcade was last seen Wednesday afternoon travelling along the Harare - Mutoko highway, the route he frequents visiting his Sangoma.
Coincidentally, on Monday, Mnangagwa went to observe the Reserve Bank of Zimbabweβs vaults containing the countryβs gold reserves.
The airport staff was gagged from speaking about the Nicodemus exit, which takes place just days before the highly controversial Constitutional Amendment No. 3 hearings scheduled for May 20, 2026. Mnangagwa is supposed to attend as respondents.
This is a process many Zimbabweans believe could shape the future of constitutional governance, succession politics and the survival of democracy itself.
The nation slept on May 13 and woke up to silence.
Where is the President?
Why the secrecy?
Why abandon normal state protocol at such a critical national moment?
Zimbabweans deserve answers.
At a time when the country is facing economic hardship, political uncertainty and mounting constitutional tension, the disappearance of the Head of State from public view without explanation raises serious national questions.
WHERE IS THE PRESIDENT?
WHERE IS THE FIRST LADY AUXILLIA MNANGAGWA?
RBZ GOVERNOR JOHN MUSHAYAVANHU, WHERE IS OUR GOLD???
Dear compatriots before they post it, I will post it here. I will let you be the judges. I know I have offended people but who did Takunda Mhuka, Emmanuel Sitima & Godfrey Karembera offend. Why is law applied selectively? We know @PoliceZimbabwe is under pressure but no mhani.
