In an immensely insightful address at the conference in #PortBlair today, Advocate @RachnaTyagi24, Legal Counsel at #JustRightsforChildren, explained the landmark Supreme Court ruling on Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Material (#CSEAM) that merely viewing, possessing, or storing material depicting minors engaged in sexual activity constitutes an offence under the #POCSO Act. She also elaborated on why the apex court replaced the term ‘child pornography’ with #CSEAM, clarifying that the former implies a degree of consent, whereas the latter more accurately encompasses all forms of child sexual abuse material, including AI-generated content.

@ACTIVISTLAWYER, National Convenor of #JustRightsforChildren, raised some extremely pertinent questions at the conference on ‘#ChildMarriage & #ChildSexualExploitation’. He pointed out that with over 2 lakh cases pending in #POCSO courts across the country, the situation remains grim, and children continue to suffer in silence for countless years.
��The law remains a piece of paper unless it is acted upon—this fact is especially important when we speak about serious cases such as child sexual abuse,” he said while speaking at the state-level conference organised by Just Rights for Children partners -- @IndiaCPOrg (#ICP) & Association for Voluntary Action (#AVA) -- along with the State Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands (#ANSLSA).

As the conference on #ChildMarriage & #ChildSexualExploitation concludes, one truth stands out—child marriage and #CSEAM are grave violations of children's rights that demand urgent action. While #childmarriage continues to trap children in cycles of abuse and the violation of their fundamental rights, #CSEAM is an organized, borderless crime thriving in the digital age. Tackling these issues requires a whole-of-society and whole-of-government approach, stronger enforcement, comprehensive victim support—from counseling to rehabilitation, community sensitization, speedy trials and #justice, and systemic interventions at all levels. Organized by #JustRightsforChildren partners—@IndiaCPOrg (#ICP) & Association for Voluntary Action (#AVA)—in collaboration with #ANSLSA, this conference reinforced our collective responsibility to act. Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court, Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharyya, Judge, High Court at Calcutta and Executive Chairman A&N SLSA, Mr. @Bhuwan_Ribhu, Founder, Just Rights for Children, Mr @OP_Singh83, President & CEO, Indian Police Foundation and Former DGP of Uttar Pradesh, Ms @BehuraSampurna , Executive Director, India Child Protection, Mr @DhananjayTingal, Executive Director, Association for Voluntary Action along with other dignitaries from the administration, judiciary have together for deliberation, knowledge sharing, strategic planning and discussions on implementing Supreme Court judgments and safeguarding children from exploitation both online and offline. The annual report of A&N SLSA was also released during the Conference.

One of the most important tenets of child rights is ensuring that children have good health, nutrition, education, and freedom from abuse and violence. Child marriage deprives children of all these rights, denying them the opportunity to develop into fully empowered individuals,” said Hon’ble Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, Chief Justice of the High Court at Calcutta and Patron-in-Chief of (#ANSLSA), while addressing the state-level conference on
#ChildMarriage & Child Sexual Exploitation in #PortBlair.
He stated that the effective implementation of the law is crucial in curbing child marriage, which can be achieved by strengthening the legal framework, increasing the number of Child Marriage Prohibition Officers, and ensuring the availability of sufficient resources to enforce the laws.
