Well, that escalated quickly.

There’s been a wave of claims by cheaters about Vanguard “bricking” their PCs, so let’s clear that up: Vanguard does not damage hardware or disable your devices.

The photo we posted is a picture of cheat hardware devices that are sold explicitly for cheating in VALORANT (not normal PCs or PC components). Through our latest updates, Vanguard now makes those devices worthless for VAL, but does not in any way brick PCs or PC components or PC software.

Our latest update enforces standard platform security features, like the Input-Output Memory Management Unit (IOMMU), on accounts identified as using Direct Memory Access (DMA) cheating devices. These protections are already part of modern systems and when enabled, they block DMA cheat devices (such as those shown in the photo) from accessing memory in downstream applications, like our games.

If a cheat setup continues attempting to cheat after those protections are enabled, the system may generate hardware faults or instability. This is expected behavior under IOMMU when attempts are made to read protected memory.

Disabling IOMMU allows the cheat device to function again, but IOMMU will still be required to play our games. This means the cheat device won’t work with our games, but your PC isn’t “bricked.” We would not, and cannot, impact your PC’s functionality in any other fashion.

This functionality only applies to systems attempting to use DMA cheat devices, and players who are not using DMA-based cheat setups are not affected.

We’ll keep investing in anti-cheat to protect competitive integrity, and we’ll keep being as transparent as possible about how those systems work.

People keep asking me how I got into IT.

I got into IT because I was too socially awkward for sales and too impatient for engineering.

In 2009, I was the only IT person at a 40-person startup.

Everything was my fault. Server down? My fault. Email slow? My fault. Someone's laptop got a virus because they opened an email from their own mother? Also my fault, apparently.

One day the CEO asked me why our internet was "acting slow." I told him it was probably DNS. I had no idea what DNS was. I just knew it was the answer to everything.

He asked me to fix it. I told him I needed $8K in equipment and three weeks.

I spent two weeks watching YouTube videos about DNS, bought $200 in equipment, and told him it was fixed.

It wasn't. The internet was still slow. But nobody asked about it again because a month later the company ran out of money and shut down.

I got hired at the next place and immediately told them our DNS was probably the problem. They believed me. That was 15 years ago.

I'm now an IT Director at a Fortune 500 company. My entire career is built on the fact that I got lucky once and nobody's fact-checked me since.

Last month someone asked me a technical question during a meeting and I just said "DNS" and everyone nodded and moved on.

I'm convinced my entire C-suite reputation is based on a YouTube video from 2009 I watched while pretending to work.

The BBC Doesn’t Want Viewers — It Wants Hostages

So let me get this straight.

I pay Netflix for Netflix.
I pay YouTube for YouTube.
I do not watch the BBC.

And yet the BBC still thinks it has a divine right to rummage around in my wallet?

This isn’t public service broadcasting anymore.
It’s institutional arrogance wrapped in nostalgia.

The licence fee was built for an age of three channels, static screens and enforced national attention.
That world is dead. Buried. Gone.

Instead of competing like everyone else, the BBC’s response to losing relevance is essentially:

👉 “If people won’t choose us, we’ll force them.”

Charging people because they watch Netflix or YouTube isn’t modernisation —
it’s a state-backed shakedown.

And what really grates?
The moral superiority.

This organisation still talks down to the public like it’s the nation’s conscience, while repeatedly failing to get its own house in order.
Maybe before demanding more compulsory cash, it should stop posturing as the moral compass of Britain and start asking some very hard questions about itself.

How many scandals does it take?
How many internal failures quietly managed, minimised, or brushed aside?
How many times does the public have to be told “lessons have been learned” before trust is completely gone?

You don’t get to lecture the country, alienate huge swathes of the audience, pump out bias, repeats and self-regard…
…and then demand payment from people who’ve actively walked away.

That’s not public service.
That’s monopoly thinking on life support.

Imagine Tesco billing you because you shopped at Aldi.
Imagine Spotify invoicing you because you bought a CD.
You’d call it insane — because it is.

If the BBC’s content is good, people will pay voluntarily.
If they won’t, you don’t get to threaten, guilt-trip, or criminalise them for refusing.

The future is choice.
The BBC hates choice — because choice exposes irrelevance.

No more reverence.
No more compulsory funding.
No more pretending this is about anything other than control.

Local laws should determine what kind of media you can or cannot purchase. Not a company meant to facilitate transactions. If the content is legal they shouldn't be able to restrict your access to it.

I am no longer working at @offbrand_games. People were attacking all of the games we were publishing and trying to mass review bomb them. You can dislike the things I say but this kind of behavior is unhinged.

Learned a lot there, accomplished a lot, hope they succeed regardless. Love those dudes and loved working with them. Hope they keep cooking.
