🚨🎙️ THOMAS MÜLLER ON ENGLAND’S 3-2 DEFEAT TO SPAIN:
🗣️“England will never learn.
You are playing Spain at Wembley, you take a 2-1 lead, and instead of controlling the game, you allow Spain to come back and take everything from you. This is exactly what happened against Argentina. Different opponent, same problem.
And then I look at the decisions from Thomas Tuchel and I honestly don’t understand them.
Why is Bukayo Saka allowed to stay on for almost the entire match when he is offering almost nothing? He was ghosting through the game. If your winger is having that kind of performance, you change it early and bring fresh energy into the attack.
Anthony Gordon had scored the goal that brought England back into the game. He was giving Spain problems. He was direct, aggressive and actually looked dangerous.
Yet somehow Gordon is the player you decide to take off while Saka stays on.
How does that make sense?
This is not about protecting one player. This is about making decisions based on what is happening on the pitch.
England had the momentum. They had the lead. They had Wembley behind them. And somehow Tuchel allowed the game to turn against them again.
At 2-1, England should have been asking how they were going to finish Spain off.
Instead, they started looking like a team waiting to be punished.
And they were.
Tuchel was brought to England because he was supposed to be the manager who could make the difference in these moments. But twice now, when England have had the advantage against elite opposition, the team has lost control.
How many warnings does he need?
If you have players like Kane, Bellingham, Saka, Gordon and the rest of this squad, and your answer to pressure is to sit back and hope the game survives, then perhaps the problem isn’t the players.
Perhaps England simply have the wrong manager.
Tonight was not just a defeat.
It was another reminder that England still don’t know how to close out the biggest games.
And that responsibility starts with Thomas Tuchel.”
