Katya was right 😭just 2.5 hrs of dated Hollywood slop. Excessive lens flares and tropes. Sucks bc I love alien/sci-fi things but he should’ve just left it at Close Encounters.
What you don’t see is the suffering I endure everyday trying my very best to stay positive and not post anything mean or evil on here but I need to break my silence and let you know that I thought Disclosure Day was one of the biggest piles of shit I’ve ever seen. Horrible, stupid, absurd but not in an entertaining way, so poorly written it borders on abusive, ridiculous but also deeply boring, just complete and total shit ass.
the fact that nobody is willing to admit there is a serious teal digital color grading epidemic infecting nearly every film released by Hollywood now and people get ultra-defensive or personally offended if you point out on here that there is a problem is a bleak omen for cinema
Backrooms is the best rewatch experience I’ve had in a cinema. The second watch is so fruitful. I liked it the first time, was in awe of its intelligence the second. It’s a movie for people who love trinkets & can spot meaning in every tiny detail. A frightening treasure hunt.
Backrooms succeeds and struggles for the same reason: its devotion to atmosphere. Yet I can’t shake the image at its center: an architect trapped inside an endless building that never reaches completion. A surprisingly moving symbol of unfulfilled potential.
How much of Backrooms’ compelling atmosphere is the anxiety of growing up in an empire past its peak?
I don’t know, but the movie felt familiar. For context, a building I worked in for two years:
I keep thinking about Backrooms, that it’s a movie made by someone young now, about people being trapped in and forced to wander and sift through the banal and garish detritus of the late 20th century, warped and monstrous things being built from flimsy memories of that era
‘BACKROOMS’ director Kane Parsons says he would get “no enjoyment” out of using generative AI on any project — “It defeats the purpose entirely for me.”
“I think I'm in the same boat as most well-adjusted people. If I could snap my fingers and make generative Al disappear forever, I probably would.”

something i've noticed about THE DRAMA, OBSESSION, BLUE FILM, EXIT 8, HOKUM, ERUPCJA, & UNDERTONE is a relative incuriosity about characters' lives beyond exposition. very hermetic, these people don't seem to exist outside of the immediate circumstances of the movie they're in.
