The 2-4 hours you spend scrolling each day (or 730-1460 hours each year) is more than enough time to write a book, build a business, or get in shape. In the moment, it seems like nothing. That's why it's so dangerous. Your time disappears without you being conscious of it.

I can write tons of pages of the things me and family went through on 26th January 2001 and post it. Will keep it short.
- Was watching TV and having tea at my mama's place in Anjar (Some 100-150 kms from epicentre)
- As the earth shook my mama shouted and understood it was a Earthquake and asked all of us to run
- It was a tenament and we used to look the main gate in night. In fear I had jumped over the gate and ran outside. All other were in the veranda. My mama till jokes with me of if I can jump the gate he'll give me Rs. 10K as price
- The earth shook really bad and I still have memories for the same
- Post the same I saw a huge smoke of dust rise in direction of old Anjar. The old city was completely demolished
- Took some time for us to understand what had happened. Me and my cousin took the scooter and used to my nani's home. Lucking their and other mama who lived beside homes were safe and all were out in open.
- Checked the other mama's home and his building was damaged badly so they all were rushed down
- All were safe and this all happened till afternoon
- Then news came of the old Anjar having completely fallen so me and cousin went to help people.
- I walked over rubbles of people shooting from beneath. Some hands would touch my feet asking for help
- Except the trees the whole old town was flattened
- We helped with whatever we could and only at 3 pm someone got the news of Bhuj also had the same and I realised my parents live in building and someone want to go to Bhuj
- Busses were not going to Bhuj. Asked my mama for his Ambassador and he denied. Fought with him and still took it only to damage the clutch plate till I reached Bhuj as I didnt know hand gears
- As I saw the glimpse of our building I took a deep breath as I saw it standing. Went as checked and parents and sister were safe downstairs
- Inspite of everyone denying I went updaters in the damaged building to get my video camera. Wa scolded like hell for the same for the risk. But I wanted to record all.
- Got parents with us to Anjar as most family members were there. First night was slept in the open before we started getting make shift tents. I ate less as for washroom needed to go in the home.
- 3+ months we stayed in tents made outside our homes. Nani didnt bother and was like if its time I will go but wont sleep out and she went on to sleep indoors the next day itself.
- Coming to the camera thing. No electricity so I used to go to Collector office to charge battery etc. I remember George Fernandes the then Defence Minister was first one to visit the area along with the CM. Now they were scheduled for Bhuj visit but while going over Anjar they decided to land and do a quick visit due to devastation. I got the news and ran with my camera. As the stop was non scheduled no media was there to record. I personally met George Fernandes and also chatted and took his autograph on a paper stating near the helicopter. The then CM didn't leave the chopper due to safety concerns I think or maybe he got back early. The news of them landing was got to me by local MLA who wanted her recording etc and she know I had a handicam.
- If you saw the video of George Fernandes back then near the chopper which media people ran it was my footage and I had sold it to them for some pocket money. That money lasted me for a few months.
- 2 weeks into the disaster we could no longer go in the old city due to foul smell etc.
- I even worked on daily basis with an International rescue team as a translator who had come with sniffing dogs. I was given an injection in morning and post in evening. The dogs were god send and they got quite many people alive from the rubble
- Post 2-3 weeks robbers came in with the purpose of robbing homes and most the gold market which was all in rubbles in Bhuj and Anjar. I remember the collector giving out shoot at sight orders to Military if anyone was found in that ares post 7 pm darkness without a pass
- Many things I dont want to write here to what happened to the robbers we caught and the military head instructions etc.
- Relief started coming in post 3-4 weeks I think. I used to go and get oil cans or food stock whenever something came up. Baths were weekly but I made sure to go to the tanker filling station and jump in with clothes just for a shower.
- Swaminarayan mandir started food distribution and I still thank the Sikhs who set up langers which gave chapatis. So I went to bangers to get chapatis and then headed to Swaminarayan temple for the. rice dal and sabji. Swaminarayan Mandir didnt have chapatis. God bless both institutions for feeding me and all in family.
- I still fear to sleep in buildings and I still do whenever I am at Bhuj. The fear of going down in rubbles will always remain for me.
- I may have pulled out tons of bodies during the first 1 month or so. Pulled out people with legs or hands smashed and loaded in ambulances.
- In Anjar I think on the 3rd day we had dug out a old persons and while he was waist length in rubbles he asked for a beedi to smoke as he has not had one in 2 days.
- Families used to check for their home with keeping the standing trees as markers else it was all rubbles and you could not find any address
- I thank god that we did'nt have any deaths in our family
- I had got hold of a tent of Israel that just needed to pull a string and it would unfold itself into a home etc. Many thing came for relief during that time. Dont wanna get into political debate etc.
- My home in Bhuj most building on the same road had flattened off except ours. Just were lucky we didnt have water in overhead tanks. Most building fell due to the wanter tank crashing and pulling down the building.
- Before we got this home we had finalised another home in another building. But in end parents didnt buy it as it was not airy and had limited sunshine. That building collapsed like pack of cards and had no survivors. When we saw it just to think it would have been us but saved.
- Later also met Bill Clinton when he was in Bhuj
- Also Sunil Dutt had come to Anjar and set up camp near my nani's home. Gem person and yes thats the only part I believe from the movies Sanju. Seen it.
25 years now Bhuj has developed really well. So many industries have come up. Much was done to get the region back on its legs. Grateful to have lived and survived and have all family members with me today.
Seeing Federer back on a tennis court is bittersweet. Sweet because he is back on a tennis court. Bitter because he is retired. I miss when my sleep pattern was all over the place, because Federer was playing at ridiculous hours in the morning. I wish I could relive those days 😢
