Gedling Borough Council and Nottinghamshire Police are continuing to work together to address car cruising and dangerous driving across the borough.

The recently extended Car Cruising PSPO allows enforcement action to be taken against those involved in prohibited activities, with Fixed Penalty Notices issued where appropriate.

If you're concerned about car cruising, racing, excessive vehicle noise or dangerous driving, please report it.

The Council is currently consulting on an Article 4 Direction within the Netherfield area which would remove permitted development rights to change the use of houses to small HMOs of up to 6 residents, meaning planning permission would be required.

This proposal is being brought forward to help the Council better manage the concentration and distribution of HMOs, ensure balanced and sustainable communities, and address local concerns.

The Council is keen to hear from residents, landlords and businesses before any decision is made. Your feedback will help inform whether and how the Direction is implemented. Residents have reported:

•Excessive noise late at night
•Dangerous driving and speeding
•Concerns about public safety
•Disruption on roads and in public spaces

That's why Gedling Borough Council and Nottinghamshire Police continue to work together to tackle anti-social vehicle activity and help keep communities safe.

The extension of the PSPO gives officers additional powers to take enforcement action, including issuing Fixed Penalty Notices where offences occur.

A reminder that work has started to create a Changing Places Toilet at Carlton Square. A Changing Places Toilet is a large, accessible toilet equipped with additional space and specialised equipment for use by people with a wide range of disabilities.

The works overall are expected to take around a month. During this time if you are shopping at Carlton Square, access points to the car park by vehicle and on foot may change.

A road closure will be in place while some of the works take place. This means residents will only be able to:

•Access the Farmfoods car park from the south entrance
•Access the top car park from the North entrance

Eligible people will be able to register for access to this Changing Places facility and the one at King George V in Arnold, to ensure they can use the facilities, and to safeguard them against vandalism and misuse. Further information on this process will be shared in due course.

The new Changing Places Toilet has received £145,000 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Yesterday we announced that, subject to parliamentary approval, central government confirmed its plans for the future of local government in Nottinghamshire, which would create two new unitary councils:

· One covering the current local government areas of Nottingham City and parts of Broxtowe, Gedling, and Rushcliffe.

· And one covering the current local government areas of Ashfield, Bassetlaw, Mansfield, Newark and Sherwood, and parts of Broxtowe, Gedling and Rushcliffe.

We’ve put together a video to help explain what this means.

For residents and businesses, there will be no immediate change, and you are the biggest priority in this process.

All nine councils will continue to work together and ensure residents are updated as plans progress.

The Car Cruising Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) has been extended.

The order will remain in place until June 2029 and helps tackle anti-social behaviour linked to organised car cruise events.

Working alongside Nottinghamshire Police, we're continuing to take action against behaviours that can put people at risk, including dangerous driving, racing, excessive noise and vehicle stunts.

Recent enforcement activity has seen action taken against those breaching the order, including the use of Fixed Penalty Notices where appropriate.
