@TychoBrahe Agree - I think Valve will be a major catalyst here. Did my first tentative experiments on Linux using the wine wrappers. Not playing competitive games, but certainly was impressed at how far things had come since the early days of wine.
I just want the goal to be not having apps sitting idle chewing 1.5gb of ram...
... Ok I AM excited about this announcement. Largest models I am running locally are 35b. I expect the ram on chip moves will increase over the next 3-5 years. Wonder when one of these boxes will hit 512gb of ram like the mac studios?
@zacbowden How does a surface even run with 8 gig of ram these days? Open a browser, teams and Outlook at your machine will already be at 24 gig used... π€
Honest Take - as someone who used it as a daily driver for nearly a year professionally. It was pretty good, but because it's based of Ubuntu and not Debian directly, it felt a little laggy in terms of updates.
I'm back on Ubuntu for my machines and eyeing Bazzite for my handheld
AI is cool. Heck, I've been into AI & agents for over 25 years.
- Getting it to help and augment you? Cool.
- Getting it to take the wheel? Not Cool.
I'm a firm advocate for creating Centaurs: Putting the best of human and AI together to create something greater than the sum of its parts. But if you let AI do the human part, you create something... Less.

Itβs not about {old way of doing thing} β itβs about {vague higher-order abstraction}. π
In todayβs {overused adjective} {industry/landscape descriptor}, {buzzword-laden subject} isnβt just a {trend/buzzword}; itβs a {grandiose transformation noun}.
Hereβs the thing: most people think itβs about {obvious surface-level activity}, but itβs really about {intangible, hard-to-define concept}. Letβs unpack that.
Imagine {relatable-but-performative scenario (e.g. early morning, coffee, gym, airport lounge)}. Thatβs when it hit me: β{short, punchy, fortune-cookie insight}.β
We donβt {common verb} by {expected method} β we {same verb} by {contrarian-sounding but meaningless method}.
Why this matters: in a world where {dramatic generalisation about change}, {type of people} who {insert vague capability} will outpace those who {mildly insulting description of others}.
{Number} lessons I learned:
- {Virtue word} drives {positive outcome}
- {Another virtue word} builds {another positive outcome}

But hereβs what no one tells you: {claim of hidden knowledge that is actually obvious or empty}.
The reality is this: if youβre still {old behaviour}, youβre not just {negative consequence} β youβre {more dramatic negative consequence}.
The bottom line? {tautological or self-evident conclusion dressed as insight}.

I first discussed collaborative agents in boardroom / business scenarios 20+ years ago, however the challenges are real and pressing for leaders right now.
