It's been a while since we last shared our future plans at @GasHeroOfficial. Given that we have delivered a significant number of plans announced in the previous post and are currently working on the Ticket Mode for World Boss, we thought it’s about time to share a few other things and collect some feedback from you all.
In this post, I’m going to talk about a few things:
1️⃣ What’s the “FUN” that Web3 games can offer to users that is unique from what traditional games offer?
2️⃣ How can we offer such “FUN” experiences to our users in a scalable way (even beyond Gas Hero)?
3️⃣ Some basic adjustments based on our current strategy.

1️⃣ We are undergoing a paradigm shift in what Web3 Entertainment entails.
Having launched Gas Hero for 8 months, I’ve been thinking about what, essentially, we are building today. A game theory simulation experience? A social venue for our global fans to bond over?
Since the STEPN era, people have invented the word “Game-Fi” — namely, a game with financial components. However, it has been pushed in a more extreme direction: games that make people money. In many people’s minds, a Web3 game that makes people money is a good game, and a Web3 game that doesn’t make people money simply loses its whole purpose. As a result, Web3 games by default become complete investment products that everyone engages with only for the sake of farming.
Under such a context, many others who used to work in the traditional gaming space stood up and suggested that we want to make games that are fun to play; people will come to play our games for the fun, not for the money.
But let’s step back and seriously think about why we need the blockchain rail here. Let’s ask ourselves what type of experience can be improved by implementing the blockchain settlement layer, as Black Myth Wukong clearly doesn’t need a blockchain rail.
I have some answers if you don’t have one yet:
🫱 A blockchain rail can help a game that requires resource exchanges to effectively arrive at an efficient market.
🫱 A blockchain rail can help value flow more frictionlessly when people are entertained with game theories and strategy deployment (aka PvP).
In other words, the time when everyone entered a game thinking that being part of the game would lead to ROI has passed. In the past 12 months, I’ve seen many attempts to replicate what STEPN or Axie Infinity did but never achieved the same scale. It’s because everyone has become more sophisticated in terms of their participation strategy, and as an entertainment service provider, we need to clearly define the experience we are offering.
We are NOT offering an investment product. We don’t want to give the misconception that people can make money as long as they’re in the game early enough.
We are offering a product where there are hopes to win through strategies, and there are rewards tied to the win. As Redb would put it, Gas Hero, to some extent, is like a Poker game. When there is no prize pool associated with Poker, the game is not as fun. In my humble opinion, people play Pokers to win, and the prize pool is the byproduct of the victory.
In other words, the ideal direction that our product will gear toward is that people will compete to win, and the victory will be rewarding, but obviously not everyone can win.
In other words, if your goal is to invest, make a profit, and earn a calculated ROI, the entertainment experience we attempt to provide is not for you. I know we are not there yet, but we do have the goal to offer the right type of experience for people to consume (and they'll be unique to what blockchain and Web3 can offer, not just what can be offered by a traditional game).
We do see the importance of having a relatively balanced economy, and we’ve done quite a bit to ensure that. The next steps for us will be to lower the entry barrier, create more content for people to engage with game theories and strategies, and allow financialization of the results of those game theories.
A few things we learned from 8 months of operation:
👉 Try to avoid designs that give too much upfront mental load.
👉 Try to avoid designs that make players anxious and pressured.
👉 Try to avoid game components that make players feel too much like work.
👉 Do encourage group collaboration towards certain goals.
👉 Do encourage point-to-point interactions among players in the game mechanism (social, preliminarily).
The delivery of the ticket mode for World Boss may be a good exemplification of the above, hopefully. And there’s a completely new gameplay mode being developed — I cannot share more because this one will take some time.

2️⃣ How can we scale the “FUN” experiences of a Web3 game even beyond Gas Hero?
Another unique thing about a Web3 game that I didn’t mention above is its account system and assets that can be universally read on-chain.
FSLID can be the universal login for users to interact with other applications, and assets available inside Gas Hero can be used in other games of ours, and even many other applications for different purposes.
I cannot comment too much on how Gas Hero can be connected with our own products (something is being cooked 👀), but there are still some alphas to drop:
👉 Please expect that some partners with the FSLID integration will allow our players to watch Gas War livestreams there and use Hero Potion to guess the results of the battles. 👀
👉 Please expect that some partners with the FSLID integration will allow on-chain Hero Potion staking (capped at a small portion) to participate in the rare asset draw (the Hero Potion staked will not be returned, but the value of Hero Potion consumed will be much smaller than the asset value). 👀
👉 This is a much further future plan, but we are in initial discussions with some social platforms to integrate the in-game statuses and roles into their platform and enable FSLID integration so that your content creation account (like your X and Discord accounts) is no longer independent and segregated from your in-game account that owns the power and fame status.
We won’t build all of these things all by ourselves, but all in all, these activities will come together and form a strong network effect. We are the game rule creators, but we are also allowing meta experiences to be generated and flow around our account system and assets.

3️⃣ Some housekeeping stuff
As we mentioned, we’d focus more on PvP and being a strategy game going forward. Pure farming behavior in the game is, as a result, not at all encouraged. We will adjust down the rewards for all Individual Adventures below and include High-6 to redirect the focus of ALL participants to PvP competition and group collaboration.
In other words, if players are not interested in participating in the PvP competition, there will be no point for them to only engage in the Individual Adventures whatsoever. The adjustment will happen in 2 weeks on September 13th, 2024.
There are also long-discussed plans for subscription costs for Base and Genesis Heroes. These subscription costs will NOT go into effect before September 30 but will be sometime in October. We will share the specific date soon.
For Badges and the Skill Tree, our evaluation is that they don’t require subscription costs at the moment yet, so we will postpone the implementation of that front to a later date.
We plan to apply a subscription model denominated in Power Can:
🪜 Base Level
When the subscription balance runs out, the Base Level will not downgrade but will go ineffective until subscription is being recharged:

🦸 Genesis Hero
👉 The subscription fee for weapons and pets is separate, with a countdown triggered upon equipping. When subscription is recharged, one can extend the usage of the same weapon and pet.
👉 You do have the choice not to pay the subscription fee; if the subscription fee is not paid, the equipment will be automatically recycled when the countdown is over, without affecting the Genesis Hero itself.
👉 Common weapons: 50 Power Can for 20 days extension; Common pets: 50 Power Can for 20 days extension.
👉 Uncommon weapons: 200 Power Can for 30 days extension; Uncommon pets: 200 Power Can for 30 days extension.
👉 Rare weapons: 800 Power Can for 40 days extension; Rare pets: 800 Power Can for 40 days extension.
For the World Auction House, we have seen its initial success; however, due to the nature of the rare assets, it’s been tough for players to accumulate such a large amount of Hero Potion/Power Can to participate, and the high prices also led to a low participation rate.
We will still occasionally offer rare assets in the World Auction House, but we will also include other goods that need to be distributed. The unit price per item inside the World Auction House will also not be too steep so that more players can participate in the bidding process.
We have also made some small modifications to the Hero Mountains: we have lifted the daily rewards for Common, Uncommon, and Rare to 3:6:10, but the threshold required to receive the daily reward will be 9 matches going forward instead of 6.
In future updates, we will also add two types of potential daily rewards:
🎟️ Lucky tickets: Can be used for in-game raffle draws; can only be attained through Hero Mountains.
🚜 Base Construction Vehicle Tool Boxes: Instead of dropping from Individual Adventures, BCV Tool Boxes will be dropped from Hero Mountains.

For all of the above, we understand that it’s going to be a completely NEW journey for Gas Hero. Some may not necessarily agree with the direction, whereas others may find the new path difficult but exciting.
