Obrigado, Sam Neill, por olhar pra uma paisagem vazia com tanta emoção que me fez acreditar, naquela sala escura de cinema em 1993, que dinossauros eram reais
My boyfriend's dad had to move into assisted living three months ago, and it's been devastating for everyone. But nobody took it harder than Smokey, his 12-year-old cat who'd been his constant companion since his wife passed.
His dad was heartbroken leaving Smokey behind, but the facility doesn't allow pets. So now Smokey lives with us, and honestly, this cat has been depressed as hell. Just sits by the window all day, barely eating, looking completely lost. It was breaking both our hearts watching him grieve.
Last week my boyfriend noticed Smokey kept trying to curl up on this old flannel shirt of his dad's that we'd brought home with some of his things. Every time we'd move the shirt, Smokey would find it again and just lay there, purring softly.
My boyfriend isn't crafty at all, but he was desperate to help this cat feel better. He started looking up tutorials and found this amazing seller on the Tedooo app who specializes in memory projects using clothing. She doesn't ship to our location, but she walked him through turning his dad's shirt into this little couch, step by step. So kind!
It took him three tries and a lot of frustrated cursing, but when he finally got it right and put it on top of this old storage box, Smokey immediately claimed it. He hasn't left that spot except to eat and use the litter box.
When we sent his dad this photo, he cried. He said knowing Smokey has a piece of him for comfort makes the separation a little easier.
Watching my boyfriend put so much love into something for a grieving cat showed me a side of him I'd never seen before. Sometimes the smallest acts of compassion reveal everything about a person's heart.

Electricians working, I thought, upstairs, me downstairs with infant son. Desperate for a poo so left him outside with the door ajar. He starts crying so I'm like "Mummy's just having a poo, it's coming, hear it plop!". Walked out to see a smirking electrician. Died.
