Like it or not: Germany’s energy system is fully operational, with more than 50% renewables. And we are shutting down – not building – coal & nuclear plants. Coal will be off the grid by 2038 at the latest. PS: We also don’t eat cats and dogs. #Debate2024
We’re hearing a lot from Reform UK how these protests is legitimate anger of people who have been ignored. Sorry, we had a General Election just four weeks ago. Reform put forward a racist agenda, only 14% backed it. Time for them to stop being apologists for racism and thuggery
@alisonkatebr Yup. This time I had no massive aversion to smells. But offer me vegetables to eat and I'd vom. Thankfully that's been over for a few weeks now!
Donald Trump must not be subject to physical violence. That doesn’t mean it should now be off-limits to attack either his politics or character. Trump is as dangerous and fascistic today as he was yesterday. It is possible to strongly oppose him as well as violence against him
@alisonkatebr Yes both times I had nausea but this time I was sick like 3x a day until 14 weeks. Grim. And running around after my toddler who is fast and doesn't stop! I now have low blood pressure. Haha. Still..halfway!
The Prime Minister has the power to appoint anyone as a Minister, first making them a peer if need be. Some have used that power to appoint friends, cronies, donors, even relatives. Starmer has used it to appoint people who are experts in their field @10DowningStreet
A former government chief scientific adviser as science minister. A businessman with years of experience in rehabilitation as prisons minister. A barrister with years of experience as attorney general. A focus on specialism, domain knowledge and expertise.
Take it in. The first female chancellor. The first housing secretary who's actually lived in social housing. The first education secretary who was on free school meals. An energy secretary who actually believes in aggressively fighting climate change. Not a bad afternoon.
Let's give thanks for, and let's never take for granted, the fact that we can have an complete change of Government, overnight, without a shot being fired and without mobs storming anything...
Life feels different today. I'm not even living in the UK. Labour are nowhere near perfect but I'm pleased the Tories were crushed. Also pleased the Liberal Democrats and Greens got more seats. I dunno. First good news after an election for such a long time.
Now that the Greens have won 4 seats , can we please have endless discussions on every media outlet about the rise of progressive politics & how important saving the planet is to the UK electorate.
