Today @BorisJohnson thanked the British people for their efforts in tackling this pandemic. We are being rewarded with hugs, mass events and indoor entertainment - oh you want to get married? Sorry, once in a life events are not included - madness! #whataboutweddings
@scullyp as minister for weddings, you should be fighting our corner, surely you must see he cruel, ridiculous and insane these continued restrictions are for the wedding industry?! @PennyMordaunt@WAWofficialUK@andrealeadsom @beisgovuk @Siobhan_Baillie @michaelgove
Exactly @JessieSorores it makes no sense!! There’s got to be some personal reason why @BorisJohnson is penalising and restricting weddings more than any other industry?!🤔 #whataboutweddings
Today we see reports across the media that hugging and kissing will be permitted in Step 3, starting from 17th May.
Over the last year, we have continually been told that weddings have been severely restricted because “there is alcohol and everyone is hugging and kissing”.
The way @BorisJohnson and the government have treated the whole of the wedding industry is absolutely appalling the very people that backed you and you have turned your back on them! #whataboutweddings
This is the guidance for weddings. One week until step 3. No updates. Nothing. Just that it will be updated in “due course”.

I personally offered to help with it weeks ago, should there be an issue.

Only answer is that a) they don’t care about couples and marriage despite the ‘family values’ bluster and b) they don’t care about 400,000 workers and a £14.7bn industry.
In short, we don’t matter to them and it’s all just lip service.

⚽️ Football = 10k
🌳 Outdoor public event = 4K
🏢 Indoor public event = 1k
✅ Hugging & kissing
✅ Funerals = no limit on guests
✅ Vaccine success + free testing
❌💒 Wedding = 30 guests only
Anyone care to explain the data and science behind this?

Excellent from Sarah. However...
1. We don’t need guidance for step 4. We HAVE to open in full, no question. 21st June latest.
2. We will not be testing at the door. People may be required to do so in advance. However this circles back to insurance.

How can the government just totally dismiss weddings from all the loosening of restrictions. Funerals can now have a number that is relevant to the venue space...but weddings are capped at 30. I just don’t understand @BorisJohnson#whataboutweddings
I’m glad @BorisJohnson mentioned it’s mental health wk. Sadly, those working in the wedding sector & all our lovely couples are not having a great time, we are all thoroughly miserable, been treated atrociously & have had enough! Thanks for nothing #whataboutweddings@scullyp
Astounded. No mention of weddings at the press briefing. This government really couldn't care less about the wedding industry at all. Tossed to the bottom of the heap, forgotten and ignored. Utter disregard. This is now absolute discrimination #whataboutweddings
May 17th I can...
-Hug my friends and family again
- Purchase and consume food & alcohol indoors
- Enjoy indoor entertainment
- Go on holiday afterwards
...so I can have all the individual elements of a wedding with no numbers cap, but not an actual wedding #whataboutweddings
