I spend my adult money on games and consoles because when I was a kid my mum was able to buy a second hand PS1 and a second hand copy of Spyro. If kids can't access physical video games, be it new, second hand or borrowed, they will never grow into adults who buy them.

They're destroying not just the second-hand game industry but also an entire generation of interest. Gaming will only be accessible to kids with rich parents, so the majority will never develop an interest in the art form.
