Oct. 19, 1985: State jumped out to a 22-0 lead after three quarters and beat No. 1 ranked and undefeated USD 24-12 in front of a Hobo Day record crowd of 16,193. The result ended a 11-game Coyote winning streak.

USD’s Todd Salat was great with three interceptions, but so was SDSU quarterback Mike Busch who combined for 433 passing and rushing yards and had a hand in two TDs. Plus, the Jacks’ Dan Sonnek had 39 carries for 165 yards.

USD entered the game averaging 426 yards of offense, but the SDSU defense led by Bruce Klostermann and Ken Kraft surrendered only 260. USD is now 6-1 and SDSU 4-3, but both teams are 4-1 in the North Central Conference as is St. Cloud and NDSU. NDSU ended up winning the title with USD and SDSU tied for second.
