May’s book giveaway is here: dark magic, doomed worlds, fierce heroines, royal trouble, impossible choices, and one colossal black bird that is absolutely not bringing good vibes.

@authorldeluca Funny you mention that. I'm in the process of transcribing my dad's stories which are all handwritten. I find the act of handwriting unbearable (as in literally painful) but he probably feels the same about typing.
@PenOfBaylis I recently started an Instagram author account. Still trying to make sense of all the lingo and trends. On the plus side, I've noticed there's so much nonsense and fluff that if I take time to post something even semi-thoughtful, it stands out.
@Nickyshearsby22 I prefer Substack now. Don't spend much time on Twitter these days. Perhaps if I invested more time here I'd get more traction but doesn't really seem worth it.
Also it’s not about deliberately going for shock. It’s about saying the things that a lot of people might be feeling but are afraid to say. Someone has to make the first move.
Reading All Fours by Miranda July right now and it’s SO good! I was almost scared off by some of the reviews but glad I chose to ignore them and this is a reminder for myself as a writer as well.
If you’re writing something that’s raw and real, you probably won’t win everyone over, but that’s ok. Better to be polarizing than bland and forgettable.
@DNicholsAuthor I have a couple. I first started when I taught at a religious school and felt it was necessary to create some separation, especially as I was writing a horror novel. Now I think it's fun to have an alter ego :)
@DarranSF Same. Honestly, I tend not to finish books I don't like anyway so I wouldn't be able to fully assess it. If a writer asked me for honest feedback (prior to publication), I'd give it, but this is different.
