When HAES therapists say they don’t prescribe weight loss, it doesn’t mean that they shame clients for wanting to lose weight. Of course our clients want weight loss in our fatphobic world that prioritizes thinness above all!

If you gained weight during this global pandemic (or literally any other time), it’s okay. Bodies change!
You don’t need to crash diet or do a cleanse, reset, or detox. Your body is wise. Your body can be trusted. Keep eating.
Client: But this food isn’t healthy!
Me: Is being terrified of eating certain foods healthy? How about feeling enormous amounts of guilt and shame after eating? Or needing to compensate for this “unhealthy” food in some way?
It’s time to reevaluate what health actually means.🙏🏼

Your health status and size have zero bearing on your worth or your lovability. They do not impact how much compassion you deserve, how much patience you deserve, or how much kindness you deserve. PERIOD.
