One of the most recognizable features at Mount Vernon is the iconic red roof of the Mansion, but the shingles were not always red. The roof was likely slate blue from as early as 1775. Learn more: https://t.co/beSZJ1RrYy
28 Jan 1781. Nathanael Greene left his camp near Cheraw, SC with only a contingent of six horsemen to rendezvous with Daniel Morgan camped at Sherrald’s Ford on the Catawba River in NC 100 miles away. Greene went to support Morgan’s retreat from Cornwallis’ pursuit after Cowpens.
General Heath is grateful to his kinsman @sheuvel for doing a program about his Revolutionary War service for an SAR chapter in Virginia this past summer. Dr. Heuvel will do a similar program for another SAR chapter later this year. - ADC

I have many fond memories of what is now referred to as the "Old" State House in Boston. Representing Roxbury, I served there in 1761 and from 1771-1774 in the Massachusetts General Court and from 1791-1792 in the Massachusetts Senate. 🇺🇸🇺🇸
@SalinaBBaker And please forgive my typo - I meant to write "Dr. Warren." I had briefly thought of my other colleague, General Ward, while writing that statement! 😅😅🇺🇸🇺🇸
@SalinaBBaker Yes indeed, Ms. Baker, and Dr. Ward served (and led) with distinction for sure. I used the term "volunteer aide" in the sense that he was not commissioned a major general in the militia until June of that year. 🇺🇸🇺🇸
Ravenswood Park in #Gloucester offers 600 acres for solitude and quiet contemplation of nature. Ten miles of carriage paths and trails that meander through the park offer plenty of room to appreciate the outdoors year-round. https://t.co/jalwBvaIvG #NorthOfBoston#VisitMA
I had cordial and productive interactions with most of my colleagues during the late war. Sadly, Maj. Gen. Alexander McDougall was not one of them. We had a number of difficulties in 1781/1782. Most unfortunate....🇺🇸🇺🇸
7 Jan 1776, Lachlan McIntosh received a commission as a colonel in the Georgia militia. #RevWar Continental Army general was born in Scotland & moved to Georgia in 1736. At the start of #AmRev, he was a wealthy merchant & leader in the independence movement in Georgia. #History
If a total alteration of System does not take place in paying, Cloathing and feeding the troops, it will be in vain to expect a continuance of their service for another Campaign.
Maj. Gen. Charles Lee was one of the more “interesting” personalities with whom I worked during the late war. He is shown here as depicted during a recent theatrical production called “TURN.” 🇺🇸🇺🇸
