Speaking as a Southerner, who lived briefly in Rhode Island, New Hampshire is the only New England state that appeals to me. I realize it is quite different, but it seems sane, friendly, self-reliant, and rational, while the rest of the region is often inexplicable politically to me.

If this story is true, everything about it is both sad and grotesque. I can understand the frustration with unreachable kids, but if this kid really hurt a kitten, then encouraging him to destroy a PS5 does nothing but reinforce destruction, anger, and violence. This kid--again if this true--needs therapy, intervention, and consistent discipline, fast.

Good news from the field this World Gorilla Day: our community trackers and monitoring teams have recorded two new mountain gorilla births in Virunga National Park.⁠

Nvunabandi of the Masibo family welcomed a baby boy, bringing the group to 16 members. Kabila of the Nyakamwe family also gave birth to a male, and her family now numbers 18.⁠

That's 15 births in the Mikeno sector since January, a sign that protection is working, thanks to the teams on the ground.⁠

Live by the Communist sword, die by it. Guevara is a fascinating figure but was also a ruthless and cruel true believer who personally ordered approximately 200 executions. He had a Communist's contempt for "bourgeois morality," law, and democratic rights, so it is difficult for me to work up outrage over his ultimate fate at the hands of the CIA and Bolivia during the Cold War.

Given that Naomi Watts has pushed her child into the spotlight, I am going to note that this is the apex of our current pop cultural insanity. That award was highly likely a pay-to-play opportunity that the parents paid for. This "walk" is utterly ridiculous, clumsy, and caricatured. Nothing about this person suggests high fashion, supermodel status, or star power. It bewilders me that so many industries, ranging from fashion to movies, continue to push this bullshit.

Nikole Hannah-Jones increasingly imo sounds insufferable. She thought her daughter was thriving in a school that didn't even mark her papers. She thought she could demand and get change because she is a bona-fide New York Times Reporter, don't you know. And now she is upset that people had their own reactions to an intentionally provocative essay that she wrote. Perhaps NHJ needs to step outside the bubble and touch grass.

He is an academic. I don't mean to be rude but, having worked with them for decades, the notion of fighting back doesn't really occur to most of them, ever, nor would most of them know how to. Imo, as this should be a safe space for his lecture and he has every right to be there, the administration needs to sanction each of these students severely, up to and including expulsion. If that fails, and they do this again, it is time to move to corporal punishment. Society falls apart when young men are allowed to intimidate and humiliate others like this.

Washington needs a good power washing top to bottom. Five things I would do today to end corruption in Washington across all three branches of government:

1. Ban all stock trading.
2. Ban all participation in prediction markets.
3. Mandatory retirement at 75 years old.
4. Mandatory blind trust for individuals with a net worth more than $1 million.
5. Ban all foreign gifts to public officials, including foreign investments in their businesses or other entities.
