A clearer view of part of the Lough Fee ultramafic intrusion, in Ireland. Lighter bands are clinopyroxene, and the darker bands are serpentine. Much credit to @BODriscollEarth for his 2005 paper covering this outcrop and intrusion!
Geological sightseeing in Ireland, hiking up Garraun with the @uniofgalway Mountaineering Club. Highlights include some impressive boulder conglomerate from the turbiditic Lettergesh Formation, and the wonderful layered ultramafic intrusion of the Lough Fee Peridotite.

@AndreasenJack See, I'd have suggested 'carbon mineralization', but that wouldn't include the likes of Hyrogas, CTSCo, Core Energy.. which I gather are still far from that
@AndreasenJack@CarbonRemover@_david_ho_ It's a number interdependent on current emissions. It isn't fixed. His analogy just shows that CDR is more effective in a world with less emissions (as I'm sure you're aware!) 2 hours compared to 13 minutes is a huge difference, and scales up.
@AndreasenJack@CarbonRemover@_david_ho_ Those theoretical β3 secondsβ (in the case of CDR) will amount to far more as we phase out fossil fuels and decarbonise sectors. It isnβt a fixed number.
@AndreasenJack@CarbonRemover@_david_ho_ Not a great comparison because wind and solar projects are directly replacing fossil fuels, to produce needed electricity, and slowly beginning to compete with non-renewables (economically).
The point is, the lower our total emissions, the greater CDR's impact is.

I don't think it's discouraging CDR deployment, but instead highlighting the importance of decarbonisation in amplifying CDR efforts. By exhausting cheaper and more impactful forms of decarbonisation, removals from installed CDR will be more meaningful.
@AndreasenJack@CarbonRemover@_david_ho_ I imagine MRV difficulties, scalability and land use could refer to afforestation. Or more likely, OAE still needs to overcome marine environ issues, energy use from excavation (if not tailings) and crushing, + major MRV issues.

@edda_ara@JustinTrudeau Any mention of the Canadian Solid Carbon project led by Ocean Networks Canada? If CO2 mineralisation with seawater is demonstrated by CarbFix at Helguvik, there might be potential collaboration with their offshore Cascadia Basin project.
