Living in the Chicago burbs, Johnston is also seen as disconnected, as a wholly owned puppet of the Chicago Teachers Union, weak and incompetent when pushed to actually address issues, and generally a bit stupid.
That last is maybe unfair, but he doesn’t seem to do much to counter it publicly.
He also has literally fled media questions, cancelled contracts with ShotSpotter over the wishes of the people and aldermen in the highest crime areas of the city; and is largely responsible for the quagmire that seems to be sending the Bears to Indiana.
