BREAKING: 27 Killed In Two Mass Shootings Near Johannesburg And Cape Town

At least 27 people were killed and 26 wounded in two separate mass shootings in South Africa within a few hours, police said. The attacks took place in Wedela near Johannesburg and Lwandle near Cape Town.

In Wedela, southwest of Johannesburg, eight gunmen reportedly armed with AK 47 rifles and pistols opened fire at a bar late Saturday. Seventeen people were killed and 15 others wounded, with police launching a manhunt for the suspects.

Hours later, gunmen opened fire at an entertainment venue in Lwandle near Cape Town. Ten people were killed and 11 wounded, according to police. Five victims died at the scene, while five others later succumbed to their injuries.

No arrests had been made in either attack as of Sunday, and police said investigations and searches for the suspects were ongoing. The motive for the shootings remains unclear.

BREAKING: Major Incident Declared Near US Air Base In England After Arrests

British police declared a major incident near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire on September 27 after several men were arrested on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act.

BREAKING: Iraq And US Agree To Resume Dollar Cash Shipments

Iraq has reached an understanding with the United States to continue dollar cash shipments after a months long suspension, with a new shipment expected to arrive in Baghdad in the coming days, an Iraqi government spokesperson said.

The United States halted a shipment estimated at around $500 million in April. Iraqi officials said the suspension was linked to Washington’s concerns over foreign currency distribution and the influence of Iran backed armed groups.

Iraq said it has since strengthened oversight of dollar distribution, worked to curb misuse of foreign currency and expanded electronic payments. The shipments are intended to help meet domestic demand for US dollars.

Iraqi officials did not disclose the value or exact delivery date of the next shipment.

BREAKING: Swiss Voters Head To Polls On Proposal To Tighten Neutrality Rules

Swiss voters are heading to the polls on September 27 to decide whether stricter rules on the country’s long standing neutrality should be written into the constitution. Switzerland’s neutrality has been constitutionally enshrined since 1848.

BREAKING: Ukraine’s Secret Robot Offensive Reportedly Killed 3,000 Russian Troops

Ukraine’s 3rd Army Corps says a secretive operation known as Operation Vivaldi used unmanned ground vehicles, including explosive carrying robots, to strike Russian positions behind the front line in Donetsk. The corps claims the operation contributed to more than 3,000 Russian casualties and helped recapture about 125 square kilometers of territory. 

In one reported tactic, large Ukrainian drones carried ground robots more than 10 miles behind Russian lines before dropping them. The remotely controlled vehicles were then used to attack positions and disrupt Russian movements without sending Ukrainian infantry into the immediate danger zone.

The operation relied on electronic warfare, artillery and aerial drones to reduce the risk of Russian surveillance and allow the robotic vehicles to reach their targets. Ukrainian commanders said the systems are increasingly being used for combat, logistics and reconnaissance.

The reported casualty figure comes from the Ukrainian military and has not been independently verified. The operation reflects Ukraine’s growing reliance on unmanned systems as both sides expand the use of robotic vehicles on the battlefield.

BREAKING: Russian Jet Drones Strike Multiple Areas Across Kyiv

Russian forces launched another wave of drone attacks against Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast overnight and into the morning of September 26, with Ukrainian officials reporting the use of jet powered drones. Ukraine’s Air Force said more than 50 jet powered drones were among the Russian aerial weapons launched overnight.

Explosions and drone activity were reported across several parts of Kyiv and surrounding areas. Fires and damage were recorded in multiple districts, including Solomianskyi, where a drone crash caused a fire at an office building.

A separate drone struck between a five story residential building and a commercial establishment in Solomianskyi. Twenty people were rescued, while initial reports said at least two people were injured.

The latest strikes followed another major Russian attack on Kyiv on September 25 that killed seven people and injured dozens. Ukrainian authorities said the capital has faced near continuous Russian attacks for a second consecutive day.

BREAKING: Ukraine Struck Six Strategic Russian Oil Refineries In One Week

OPINION: FROM SEA DENIAL TO DIGITAL LEVERAGE

The Red Sea is becoming more than a maritime chokepoint. It is also a potential digital chokepoint, where shipping routes and the undersea cables carrying global data traffic converge.

The 2024 Rubymar incident showed how an attack on a merchant vessel could create risks for infrastructure on the seabed, even without evidence that the Houthis deliberately targeted a cable. The episode exposed how uncertainty itself can create economic and strategic effects.

Today, submarine cables carry nearly 99% of global data traffic, while the Red Sea carries more than 90% of Europe–Asia capacity. That makes physical insecurity above the seabed increasingly relevant to the security of the digital economy below it.

The article argues that this represents a new form of “digital sea denial,” where an actor does not need to destroy infrastructure to create leverage. Making a route dangerous, repairs difficult or attribution uncertain can be enough to change the calculations of governments, insurers and businesses.
For India, the implications are particularly relevant.

Its connectivity depends on international cable networks, while its repair capacity and landing infrastructure remain concentrated. A disruption far from Indian shores can still affect connectivity, trade and digital resilience.
