I have been called kwerekwere, Nigerian, Zimbabwean, Mozambican, Malawian for disagreeing with xenophobic South Africans. Guess what? I don’t give a fuck. They can call me whatever. What I will never, never do is join them in their hatred toward my African brothers and sisters
This is a still photo of how South African March and March Afrophobic thugs used Stone as a weapon to murder Malawian street vendor Brian Mwanza, right in the middle of South Africa's Indian Ocean costal city of Durban, in the province of Kwazulu Natal.
Brain's only crime was being an African selling Fruits in the street to support his family in Malawi, when this young man met this dreadful end.
South Africans watched with unimaginable indifference to the sanctity of life, as this young man's brains was smashed to pieces and he lost consciousness, without anyone rendering assistance to him.
Thousands of migrants are fleeing South Africa amid xenophobic violence and ahead of planned anti-immigrant protests on June 30, with Malawi, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana and Mozambique repatriating citizens as many camp outside consular offices.
This is the vehicle that Jacob Zuma’s MK Party is using to drive around Durban with loudspeakers, encouraging South Africans to eject fellow Africans who are living legally in KwaZulu-Natal and elsewhere in South Africa.
What a useless old man whose legacy will be remembered for corruption, the infamous shower comments, and now Afrophobia. It is a tragic decline for someone who once led Africa’s most industrialised economy.
Regardless of anyone’s views on immigration, targeting people who are lawfully in the country undermines the rule of law and fuels Afrophobia rather than addressing immigration through legal and constitutional means.
It is tragic when someone who helped destroy South Africa’s economy rides on the existing ignorance of how economics works to fuel hatred against fellow Africans. What a shameful old man.
He is making black people a laughing stock!
Jacob Zuma is such a pathetic old man. It is deeply embarrassing that a former president of Africa’s biggest economy would lose a political battle within the ANC and then attempt to fight back by exploiting Afrophobia through his political party, MK.
As you can hear in this MK message being delivered to communities in KwaZulu-Natal, the party is telling local residents that foreign nationals in South Africa should leave, regardless of their immigration status. How do you justify inciting communities by demanding that even people who are legally in the country should leave?
It is sad to see a man whom many incorrectly initially believed to be a genuine Pan-Africanist turn into someone driving and deepening divisions among black Africans.
History will remember leaders by whether they united people or deliberately sowed division for political gain. What a shameless man.
Nothing new, you have seen it all and still emerged victorious. I won't ask you to be strong because I know you are strong; you have been strong since you were a young girl, dealing with adult issues @DZumaSambudla.
Nigeria is repatriating citizens from South Africa after deadly xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals.
As anti-immigration protests grow and activists threaten further violence by June 30, regional tensions are rising.
Al Jazeera's Nour Hegazy explains.
A Ghanaian woman raised in South Africa was left homeless after her Durban salon was looted in anti-migrant violence in May. She and her 14-year-old son now sleep on the street next to some 200 other migrants https://t.co/uSm8cL6fqz
