A 13 oz bag of Buc-ee's Beaver Nuggets holds 180 grams of added sugar. The panel says 15g per serving and 12 servings per bag, and it lists all 15g as added sugar. The net weight is 369 grams, so just under half of what you're holding is sugar by weight.

Look at the ingredient order. Brown sugar comes first, ahead of the corn meal, and corn syrup. Two of the first three ingredients in a corn puff are sugar.

There's no butter in them either. The butter taste is margarine with artificial butter flavor, and the color comes from beta carotene and vitamin A palmitate that are also inside the margarine.

The rest of the panel is 0g protein and 0g fiber at 140 calories per two thirds of a cup, which puts the bag at 1,680 calories.

BREAKING: Costco is now rationing motor oil for the first time in history, limiting members to one transaction and a maximum of 2 units every 7 days on its Kirkland house-brand full-synthetic, which now sells at $58 for 10 quarts after going for as low as $30 before the war, per the retailer's own listing.

Motor oil comes out of the same barrel as gasoline and diesel, and with fuel refining margins at records, refiners are finishing crude into gasoline and diesel rather than lubricant base stocks, while the Gulf base oil supply that moved through Hormuz is disrupted. Two automakers have already warned of dwindling motor oil stock.

Costco's store brand did about $86 billion last year. That's more than Coca-Cola, more than Nike, and roughly tied with Procter & Gamble, and it comes from about 550 products with zero advertising. Kirkland is close to a third of everything Costco sells now, and it's nearly tripled since 2017 while the rest of the company doubled.

The part people miss is Costco mostly doesn't own factories. Almost every Kirkland item is made by somebody else under contract, and the deal is the product has to be as good as the brand next to it and at least 20 percent cheaper or it doesn't get made. The manufacturers agree because a Costco order is bigger than most of their other customers combined. A lot of them are the name brands themselves. Sometimes it says so on the package and sometimes it doesn't.
