A very simple and respectful point of clarification. What he’s saying is that those who went to Washington to meet with the Trump administration and want to ask for a $500 billion line of credit in order to separate Alberta from Canada should be considered traitors. I tend to agree.

I ran the math on the gain our country could theoretically make by imposing reciprocal tariffs.

Minimal.

Here are our 15 largest trading partners, their trade weighted tariff on our products, the difference between our rate and their rate, and our annual trade deficit/surplus with them.

All together, we would raise $17B by placing reciprocal tariffs on our trade partners.

On a $30T economy.

We are micromanaging the tiniest of details about our economy rather than focusing on the actual macro factors that can make us grow - productivity growth, credit expansion, etc.

Reciprocal tariffs are not worth 1 hour of anyone's time.

Going to rant a little here about a topic I’m hypersensitive about.

Feel free to skip it. I’m just venting.

We have to stop the public spending.

Actually.

No bullshit cancelling $200,000 transgender marketing brochures in sub Saharan Africa.

Real cuts.

The story of all of world history is the major power & the reserve currency at the time spoils their citizens with money they don’t have and it eventually leads to that empire’s demise.

The Greeks. The Egyptians. The Persians. The Chinese. The Romans. The Dutch. The British. The Soviets. The Japanese. And now the Americans.

Over and over again it is the same story.

Politics don’t matter.

It’s basic human psychology to want to be spoiled. We aren’t evolutionarily wired to care about problems 100 years away. We’re wired to need to eat food today.

Biden sucked. Trump sucks.

DOGE is doing nothing of substance.

We’re running a 1% Deficit to GDP PER MONTH.

I don’t personally care financially. I’ll make money in almost any scenario either way. But I’m in the 0.0001% of the country/world that can do that.

I’m speaking as Spencer the citizen right now. Not as Spencer the investor.

The majority of Americans are fucked if we don’t fix this.

We have a retirement entitlement spending runaway train heading full speed at us.

We are tied to the train tracks and nobody - no democrat and no republican - is willing to untie us.

We have to sell $10T of bonds per year to god knows who just to keep the system solvent.

We have to accept pain at a point. Real pain. Not bullshit cosmetic cuts that get immediately offset by Social Security COLA’s and corporate tax cuts.

Everybody has to share in this inevitable pain. Just as everybody shared in the gain of running these deficits these past 25 years.

Less spending. Higher taxes.

Tough luck.

Make it a lesson learned.

And if we aren’t willing to course correct, then just kiss the American experiment goodbye.

We can either accept pain and save our country. Or refuse to accept pain and then lose our country (in which case, pain will occur by default).

I love this country and want it to thrive for another 250 years for everyone.
